Alright, I like torque more than top speed. I'm currently running a 13t sprocket with 20in tires. Is there any difference between that and say a 14t sprocket with 18 in tires?

(lol 13t and 18in :D but shifting would be dumb)

Are they going to have same results? I know the 20in tires would already be better for trails.

What’s up there Steve?
I hope you aren’t having the heat we are down here, the heat index has been 105-115 every day for the last few weeks. Good news is we can ride all winter without getting frost bite.

it has been 80-90s for a week or so with no less than 75% humidity. most of the time it is upwards of 90%. it has been a killer to work outside in it i know that. i got sunburned again today since it was too hot to wanna wear sunscreen. just brutal. lol thanks for asking. ian wont mind us terrorizing his thread he already asked me on messenger about it lol. at least it is not as hot as you have. steve

Haha! Yeah I’ve been doing that on purpose. Hehe!!!

It’s a great link, though I wonder, didn’t they change the gearing on the ex somewhere and if so that means the calculator would only work for carton years.

yup it would be different for the 05+ ones. they will be slightly slower than what the list says supposedly. most of them are faster though with some mods to them as are the older ones. lol steve

Ok that’s good to know, I’ll have to pay attention to the year when I suggest the link.
That also would explain a few things, as mine is an 07 and I didn’t seem to have the same results.

That must be why I keep looking for 6th gear!!!

14/39

I’m running a 14/36 with 18’s now and still looking for more top end.
Next chain and sprocket set I get I may try a 15/37 combo and see if I can get just a smidge more top end without loosening to much low end.

If I can go 60, that's fine. The rest can be alllll torque.

Yeah I’m with you on the torque, there is very few spots on the tracks I run on that have any sections that I top out on. I wish there was a way to may a six speed ex, You can leave the first five as they are but have a 6th gear for the top end. Now that would be a fast ex.

I really need to keep the low end, because the tracks I ride have big jumps with very short runways and that torque helps get me over them.

Just keep in mind that calculator works, but without enough power to pull the gearing and tire size, even 15/37 might not pull through the whole RPM range, giving you less or the same top speed or even only 1 or 2 mph more but not what that gearing could actually do.
