well we have both machines, i had a bent a arm, that i took off my 400ex, held it up to our kfx, so the pivot points where you bolt to frame are exact match. the only thing that is diffrent in the overal length, they seem to be about an inch to 2 inches longer, so i was thinking about doing the swap, arms, tie rods spindles, pretty much just takeing the it straight off the frame in one peice.

so i was wondering if anyone has already done this or has read of someone doing it, thanks

If this does work you may have found something very cool for the 400ex community.

This could be a way to keep wider arms VERY cheap. Lemme know how it works out-but dang shame I just bought some +1 stainless lines and they BARELY fit stock.. :(

its the routing if anything, I chose to tuck them up as much as possible. They are also separate lines going to the master, no junction box.

yeah go ahead and try it out, could be the next big thing for us!
i would say the only things that would be problems would the brake lines, meaning the end fittings, if they work or not, and the a-arm bushing, mounting bolt being to big for the kfx bushing, or to small and having to get a tighter bushings/or drilling out the ex frame mount for a bigger bolt. and of course there is the shock mounts. i am sure you could do this with some basic tools and a welder. but the question is whether it is a bolt on mod or not.

I heard they are interchangeable. As for length I'm not sure about the kfx arms being longer i would give it a try...

I know that the kfx's wheelbase is at 49" and the 400ex is at 48.4. So they probably are a bit wider.

Plus I think the frame is narrower too so these arms could make a big difference.

Shocks are a tad longer on the KFX vs the EX. Not sure how that will factor.

yea the brake ends are the same and even the banjo fiting is bent the same

all the bolt holes and bolt sizes are idnetical to the eye, i think one day this week if i have a day off, im gonna do it, i think its all 100% interchangeable, as long as you get the arms, tie rods, spindles, brakes, and hubs.

im just gonna unblot the arms, and tie rods and take it off as one piece, seems to be the best way dont you think?

so i guess i will take one for the team

i think it would work other than the difference in the shock length, seeing as the 450r shock is a little longer it would prob work good if u set it up with those
So TRX01 u should b good if your putting them on your 426

so are you guys sure you need the spindles and everything for this to work? i was thinking about trying it too but i was wondering what all i was going to need before i buy parts. did anyone find out how much wider does it make it?

So TRX01 u should b good if your putting them on your 426 this is another reason i would want to do this..the LTR450 shocks i have are an inch longer..TRX01 after you mount it up to one side try an take some measurements to see if the shock mount (a-arm) is out a little farther compared to the ex's:D

i dont know if this helps but, 400ex arms fit on a 300ex perfectly, the z400 doesnt. they have wider mounts

beags86
08-09-2010, 05:28 PM
how much wider? explain better in detail, and did you try putting z arms on a 300?

IRISH-RACER-14

somebody tried it on the 300 forum. you would have to relocate arm mounts by like a 1/4 INCH

TRX01

well when i held one of my old 400ex arms up to the KFX frame it fit perfect

It would be a good idea to take some measurements to know what you're up against before you start tearing into the quads. It would be much appreciated by everyone if you could take pictures of the frame mounts on both quads with a tape measure next to it; Length of a-arms with tape measure showing; and a picture of both spindles from the front (to see balljoint angles. Probably sounds like a lot of work, but you'd be helping everyone out and we could help you get an idea before you start wrenching.

Or one of us could post in the KFX section and ask someone to take a couple of pics and measurements? Might be worth buying a cheap used set and seeing and if it doesn't fit sell them for what you bought them for.

TRX01

just went out and measured

THE ARMS DONT WORK :(

the kfx arms are are about 10 inches in width and the 400ex are about 9 and 3/4

so irish racer was correct

sorry, i wanted to do the swap bad too

yea i was hopeing it would work, whne you look at it it seems to line up but when you actually measure its off a 1/4
