i have an 86 cylinder with a cracked cylinder and the port work is great. i am considering a big bore sleeve...

my question is. what are my options for a bigbore sleeve?
will cases have to be machined?

any other advice would be appreciated.

As far as needing to machine the cases, you probably won't need to. You're talking about a stock cylinder, right? I don't think you can fit a big enough sleeve in the stock cylinder to require case machining.

On a standard big bore 72 MM sleeve into a OEM Honda cylinder, you do not need to bore the cases. Try:

This is were I bought my last sleeve and piston set and had my cylinder re-fitted with a new sleeve from with excellent results.

thanks fellas. this sounds to be economical and beneficial in the power department.

is there a way to set this up where i wont need to use my spacer plate?

I know a little bit about piston design, but I'm not an expert. I never really researched it.

But it seems like most big-bore manufacturers use the 86-style piston, requiring the use of a spacer plate. Maybe that's because they all use Pro-X pistons, but I don't know for sure. But I don't know anybody that makes an 87-style piston in the larger sizes like 310, 330 and the various overbores...

You could use a pro x short rod and rebuild your crank. I have a 86 with a 310 cylinder that I just rebuilt anf this is what i did so i would not need a spacer plate.
