Well guys i know we have waited all season, but with the input of many highly respected atvriders.com forum members, and mini racer dads across the country, we finally have a REAL mx race tire for the minis. We have been running the DWT VR1 XC tire all year with awesome results, and DWT has stepped up and made this dedicated VR2 MX version for you MX guys. I got the first set today, and they will be released to the public right after Lorettas weekend. The rears are almost 17" tall, and the tread pattern is about 7 1/2 inches wide. They are very flat with a soft aggressive tread pattern. I havent gotten to weigh them, but they are EXTREMELY light. They also came up with a VR2 matching front 19x6x10. They are a copy of Team Motoworks Can-am riders fronts just scaled down and lightened for us mini guys. Well finally someone has stepped up and answered our needs for a REAL race tire. I suspect by this time next year anyone doing any serious racing will have these tires. SWEEEEEET!!!

Hopefully they ordered enough this time. The VR1 XC version were nearly impossible to get as the season went on, they sold a wherehouse full.

$42 each? Damn! We don't need rears but I think I could settle for a set of those fronts. Thinking about a set of those Crosses too though.

Mark,

Are the rear tires just wider with the same height as the first edition?

raidernut
08-06-2010, 10:46 PM
No, they are totally different. Wider, shorter, flatter, and a softer compound with shorter lug heighth.

No not yet, the only set i have from them are mounted on wheels already. I can tell you that mounted on the DWT jr pro rolled lip wheel, they are VERY light.

wish I would have known these were coming, would have waited. I thought the knobs on the first ones were too tall. We have worn them down quite a bit and they are better now on the hardpack. I always said a 7" wide tire would be best for the minis, that was my suggestion in the thread a few months ago.
They do wear fast on hard packed tracks

The DWT V1 XC tire is still a great choice for soft sandy tracks. These new ones (V2 MX) will be better suited for hard pack.

They are availiable check with your local dealer and if they don't have them they can get them through there distributor.

You can also call DWT and they will tell you what dealer they have in your area. 1-760-758-5560

I have a set of tires and wheels in transit but want to know if the new Jr wheels use the stock length wheel studs or whether I need to pick up some longer ones??????

nvrpmx
08-28-2010, 02:50 PM
Coley's dad I have not heard of anyone having to get longer studs, if this is the case please let me know. I would need the part # you bought and all the quads info.

DWT would like to have all of your inputs on the wheels and tires so we can continue to improve products for the mini quads they are our future.

Yes, we bought the new XC rears, and 7Inch wide g2 jr wheels, and the stock wheel studs were not long enough. Just removed the studs and used 10mm allen head cap bolts with lock nuts. worked fine.

I would worry about the bolt walking around under stress and becoming loose, that is why the wheel studs are designed like they are. You can get them @ auto parts store just measure the knurl (the part that is splined that fits into the hub, the length you need and the size should be like a M10x1.0 or M10x1.25
I weaned away from bolts long ago when everybody was running wheel spacers and 6" long bolts:D that came loose often.
Keep an eye on yours.

Anyone have a pic with these tires on a mini??

dericsdad
08-30-2010, 07:32 PM
I have them torqued at 38 ft. lbs, and they haven't budged in 5 races plus practices. You are right though, studs would be better. i first put them on at a national when we got them. And my only other option was some Honda wheel studs. Those won't work because the knurled section is a much larger diameter the holes in the mini wheel hubs.

Keep in mind, I have Eton rear wheel hubs. I am not sure if the DRR's come with longer studs or not.

#404's Dad
08-30-2010, 07:50 PM
The DRR's rear studs ARE too short for the DWT Jr Wheels, no question and the cheapest way to fix this that I have found is Honda or Yamaha rear studs and drilling the hubs larger, been running them all season with no issues. Little extra effort but well worth it in my opinion.

Not much difference than the first design. What are you gaining with this design Mark?:(

Thanks for sharing info, i will pick up some studs today before my tires / wheels get here.
Do these new wheels use the flat nut or taper seat nut????

nvrpmx

the DWT wheels use a flat nut.

since were battling for a championship, i cant tell you Dale until after the last round.:D

No im kidding. These really arent going to be a replacement for the V1's in our type of racing, They would be a bit too short. They were designed for the mx guys. I may run them on Sundays 70 open race for testing at the next round depending on how rough Glen Helen is this year.

how do these last compared to snog hogs?

I actually have 18x10.5 turf tamers on my sons LT80 currently with 20x7 fronts. we don't really do MX but I'd prefer to have tires that're more mini oriented on it.

I have a set of 16.5x6.5 snow hogs on some spare rear rims but they're bald so I'm looking at getting another set probably snow hogs unless these last longer... like I said, we don't race so I don't want something that wears too quick. thanks!

they look super cool.

A bit wider and not quite as tall as the rzr cross.

I am going to weight them this weekend.

I got 12# on one scale and 12.3 on another
ft's and rears the same
and fed-ex box each said 27# so it's got to be close

How important is weight?
My scale stopped at 11 so I am not sure how much the DWT weighed mounted on the same wheel.
I was hoping they would weigh less than the RZRs.

will tucker rocky be stocking these tires? the shops here mainly just sell tucker rocky stuff and shipping to HI is killer to buy heavy things ourselves an ship in :(

lastly, the XC front, is it much smaller than a conventional bike 19x6x10? I have 19x6x10 holeshot MXs on now and they rub the new nerf bars so I was thinking the new DWT XC fronts or MAybe the MX if the XC is too tall. but I'd really prefer a longer lasting tire... thanks guys!

the diffrence is obvious and the rubber is super soft. i had to hold
the tire in place to take the pic, thats how round the profile is on
the original.

i think these tires will work the best with the concrete starting
gate at our local track. the offroad version would just spin.

so how do you like the razr cross fronts? I'm guessing the DWTs fronts are the shortest height front available to date for mini's?

and do the rear XC Jr hook up better than the razr cross in muddy/rocky trail conditions? and will that kind of riding tear them up?

I REALLY want to try these but want tires that last, grip in slippery conditions and possibly are shorter in front than my ITP 19x6x10 holeshot MX tires that rub our AC nerfs :(
