Travis use to always cross train on dirtbikes when he was racing. he use to run just as fast of lap times on his practice track as he did on his quad. he even use to go up to Flyin Dutchmen n Sleepy Hollow on off weekends and whoop dudes on his Yamaha of Troy yz125. bike was so bad@$$... trust me, he will do damn good down at LL. Travis can ride anything with wheels and a motor. and ride it fast too...

now that i think of it, Gary Denton came from bike racing back in the day. he could be considered a quad rider who has qualified for a bike national.

Gust did also????

Most of the pro quad riders are pretty good on bikes too. Its cool that they do that. I dont think many pro dirt bike riders ride quads though. I have only heard about McGrath riding quads. He was in one of the early Huevos on a banshee ripping around at Glen Helen.

yea it was cool. McGrath gave props to Gust and stuff. The dirt bike pros do respect what quads do but its the non pros that hate quads with a passion. There are some though that respect quads but most hate them. Hopefully soon the atv pros will be on the same weekend as the bike nationals and more people will see how badass quads are.

We did see him racing a dirtbike at
Racewaypark about a month ago and he
Won by a good margin.

He still should be on a quad tho!

Barry McCarty also raced LL the last few years. This year he got 2nd in the 45 vet class. For those to young to know, Barry raced the ATV GNC Pro class from about 1986 to 1994. He finished 2nd overall to Gary Denton in 1988 in the 250 pro class (I think he lost by 1 or 2 points with the throw aways, but had him in overall points).

ya def would of liked to see him do a lil better. we all know he has the skill. and LL is one of Travis's fav tracks so you know he wanted to kill it there. he'll be back next year. cause if ya know Travis, he dont give up til he gets his #1 plate..

and i was part of his K&K team back then. we ran the team outta my truck and trailer that year.that was the year he ran the #1 plate. he ran Pro, and I ran A and a few select Pro-Am races. we ran basically the same set up as each other but he ran Lonestar chassis and Axis shocks. i ran Laeger chassis with PEP shocks. other then that they were matching blue and white bikes. loved the all white plastics and tank that year. and i pretty sure that was the last year for the MX/TT racing before the split.

ya two dnf's and a dns, sounds like a fast quad guy trying to race a bike. i wish he would of done better, but i did chuckle when i saw the results.

dehner47

ya his results arent anything to write home about but still no reason to "chuckle" at a guys bad race weekend. cause trust me, he can ride anything faster then anyone on this site. dude is a true bad@$$ on a quad and a bike. let alone a past champion in this sport.

Barry won seven ATV GNCC Championships...and one on a bike in 2003. He's finished 2nd on a bike twice.

I went to LL on Saturday to watch. I heard Spader was leading the first moto and crashed...broken hand or wrist. Tried to come back for second moto and just couldn't hold on. Evidently he had the speed.

Spader was leading. Looked like he was doing pretty well.

damn. looks like he was running a pretty fast lap time too. not bad for a retired quad rider gone dirtbike racing:D

Man that sucks that he didnt get to bring home the win. According to those lap times though he was hauling! On another note i thought its crazy to see how fast the local kid in my area Cooper Webb did in his classes (one of them is class 28) compared to the A riders. Hes only a few seconds off of the top three and hes on a 150. Thats sick.

dehner47
08-10-2010, 08:56 PM
dude, Cooper Webb is crazy fast. hes running a JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) motor in that bad boy. so ya know that thing is probably a beast.. they say he's gonna be one of the "futures of motocross". i hope. cause kid can ride.:eek2:
