The other day I tried putting a fuel filter on my 400ex.
I got some plain old 1/4" fuel line from an auto parts store.
It seems like it is too stiff to make the bends required and still flow well.
With the fuel filter in the line it barely fills up with fuel unless you shake the quad a little.
The tubing is so pinched at the bends it looks terrible.
Do you guys even run fuel filters?
Is the fuel line on RMATV more flexible and more able to make the bends than regular fuel line?
I would like to get some other opinions.
Thanks,
Matt

If you look down in the brass input tube where the fuel line plugs into the carburetor there should be a small screen down inside that tube. You can change the screen or just clean it, so I don’t use a inline filter. Most people don’t even know there is a screen already in the carb. I’m at work right now but when I get home I’ll post a pic.

There's already a filter inside the gas tank attached to the petcock inlet. Basically a dummy-proof thing by Honda in case you get dirt in the tank as you are filling up. It's a very fine mesh screen. So running a fuel filter after that is a bit redundant. (It's a good idea to remove the petcock once in a blue moon to clean this screen).

As far as the fuel line goes, ditch that automotive rubber hose and get some polyurethane fuel line. The most generic type is usually blue and you can see through it to see if fuel is flowing or not which is nice. I got mine at my local dealer, it's Parts Unlimited brand 1/4" line. It's a bit more flexible than the thick rubber hose too. You might want to check your dealer first, or you can order it from Dennis Kirk/Rocky Mountain ATV.

The one in the tank looks exactly like that ^^^ just longer. So that's 2 fuel filters on the stock setup, adding another is even more redundant lol.

if they didn't have any other fuel line i would try another store. i think i recall having to check 2 or 3 different stores to find what i was looking for...and some places don't even stock that thin stuff.
but for me it beat wating for a week for the mail to show up.
the stuff i bought was 1/4" clear yellow line and it was really flimsy.

i dont think its anything to worry about if the external filter you put on doesn't fill up all the way. i ran one on my 250 and it was always like at least half empty. personally i think it's not a bad idea...i wouldn't necessarily trust a gas station's fuel to be 100% free of foreign material.

Thanks a lot.
I'll try and track down some poly fuel line around town.
