It's been a year since I finally got it running, and I figured I would make an update thread.
After putting the 730 kit in the ds650, it's time to tear back into the xr. I still haven't picked a size for the stroker kit, but I have a bare set of cases to send off, and an extra top end that's getting a 680 big bore, and some head work, and probably a nice Web Cam.
I also have another stock motor on the shelf, so I can mix and match parts if something happens. I won't have pictures until after Dunefest, so about a week.
Lots of problems over the last year:
First was carbs. After 3, I found the Mikuni. Now, I'm probably going to move up to a bigger Lectron.
Starting was an issue until I took it to the dyno and got it perrrrfect.
My chain likes to come up and DEVOUR my oil tank. :eek2:
I really need to redesign that one.
I hate Fullflight's choice of ball joints. I have to spray them every ride or they squeal.
It took me 9 months to finally get a bumper mounted.
I went to Glamis over Christmas, and went on a ride, and tore it down to adjust the valves, to find
THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE ROCKER ARM ADJUSTED WAS LOOSE AND FELL OFF INTO THE HEAD.
That was the second most scary moment with this bike. I thought I was screwed. Luckily, it fell just to the side of the valve springs, and was sitting there waiting for me, perfectly fine.
Two weeks ago, I got to the dunes to test out the ds730, and noticed a puddle of oil on top of my case. I open my oil tank.
NO OIL:mad:
Of course I panicked and thought that I had run it like that. I put 3 more quarts in, and stopped the small leak on my valve cover vent tube. I go on two rides, check it again.
NO OIL
Once again, no leak either. Turns out, it all was draining into my cases. The check valve was sticking, allowing the tank to drain. So, there was about 10 quarts of oil in my bike today when I drained it.
Those were the big issues, and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT ONE IS.
In all seriousness, this is my dream bike. It has exceeded all my expectations and I absolutely love it. Who needs a girlfriend when you have a hybrid? The bike costs me less money (hardly), and i get to ride it whenever i want. :D
