I just got done putting my engine back together. But when I started I didn't put it at true TDC, so is there anyway to tell which rotation is true top dead center or does the motor spark twice per cycle or is there a possibilty that I could be 180 degrees off. If so what will happen, besides running poorly or not at all? It does not explain that part in the CLymers I guess.

On the 400 it actually does spark twice as you call it, but when you line up the marks on the flywheel and line up the timeing chain the piston will be TDC.

rotate the eng couterclock wise and put the fly wheel on the t mark alineing on the case mark watch the intake valves open this means your going on the comp stroke and when the t mark lines up your on tdc comp stroke the you can check your cam timing marks should be at the 12.00 position with the cam lobs facing down if everything is correct hope this helps:cool:
