I've heard the 2002 will not work, but I can't verify that.

THe 2001 has one of the best timing curves out of the CR250's. Even Service Honda builds off the 2001 model. I did a lot of reading on this a while back. I think the one reson most favor the '01 is because of the timing curve. Be sure that all of your parts match when buying one.

The 2001 does have the best timing curve, but if you see a 2000 on ebay for 100 dollars less than 2001's average like I did, I would scoop it up and slap it on.

I doubt you are going to feel any seat of the pants difference, and you can actually see the difference in

by rsss396 on TRX Two Fifty R .net.

Seems pretty minor to me, and I got my 2000 for $190!

well this 02 is under 100 as of right now so you think it would be worth it? i don't see how it wouldn't work.

I am sure I also read on here somewhere that the 02 and later ignitions won't work, I just don't remember the reason. Search and I am sure you can find some more info.

question, can you take the stator wound part off the CR and mount it on the TRX plate? or do you need the plate from CT or ESR? I was just looking at that and was wondering about it cause they both run a 3 hole mount thing...

I ended up buying a 02 set up for 71 dollars on flea bay I just need the plate.

You definitely need the adapter plate, it is why they make it after all!

I cant seem to find any definitive thread, but if my memory is right, it seems that the woodruff key was in a different position on 02 and up, and the timing would be completely off. Seems like a relatively simple fix with a machine shop and a timing wheel, seeing as you can buy an adapter plate to get the timing dialed in, but its what I remember of it.

I kinda think you are moving into uncharted territory, and I wish you luck with it!

according to Neil you can use it. i found this post

I just thought of it, first time I'm running this set up, can some one post a pic with their set up in the motor? I just wanna see how much different it is.

this is the one i won

Well be sure to let us know how it works for you. I've heard it will work and I've heard that it won't. Be nice to hear from someone that has actually installed one. You get that adapter from ESR and you can have in changed out in about 40 minutes.:D

I looked at the parts fishe on Service Honda and the 02 harness has some extra stuff that my 2001 setup didn't. The 02 has a what Honda calls a "rectifier, regulater" and also has a "servo motor", I am guessing for the power valve. (2002 must have been the first year they went to the electric power valve?) I have no idea what will happen if you leave them unplugged, since the 250R has no need for the servo motor. It also looks like there is a extra plug or two on the 2002 harness, no idea what they plug in to, didn't want to look around anymore. I have heard the 2002 and up CR250R's have a TPS sensor on the carb, but I could not verify it from the parts fishe. I know on my 450R's if you leave the TPS inplugged, it defaults to WOT mode.

My 2001 setup is really basic, there are just five connections on the harness if I remember correctly. Two for the CDI, two for the coil, then one to the stator.

im not sure whats the deal with the rectiter or what it would run.
as the powervavle stuff shouldn't really make a difference. however the TPS could make a diff. I know on the yamaha blaster you could over ride it and get a block kit so im sure i could over ride it, with the blaster it wouldn't idle.

what would you do if you would upgrade your 450r carb to a bigger FCR or something then? theres gotta be a way to get around it...

Just about all FCR's have a TPS. All you have to do is rewire to the stock harness. Even if you don't the quad still runs, the CDI just thinks it is at WOT all the time, so it only uses the WOT map.
