ok so i am really happy on how it turned out. i still need to get the hood, rear fender and a new seat cover. what you really need to make this work is the fowolling

all of the the parts can be found on gdh racings ebay store. they have any part u want for most honda quads. all parts from an 07,08 and an 09. u need a:

seat
seat latch
rear fender
tank cover
front fender mount
front fenders left and right
hood.

im not sure if the head light will work. i might try it some time. i was thinking on purchasing a generation x hood like mike kozura's. this whole thing cost me like 450 dollars. i got the tank cover from motosport.com because it was the cheapest i could find.
i think the first person on this site to do this was big bad benny and then i think etondaddy did it. they inspired me with there nice 300ex's. i will be adding more to this thread as i get more stuff. i also got new tires and wheels from pappy which i was happy with:) please post your comments and thoughts

I mounted 450r plastic to my sons 300. I picked up a black tank cover for the 300 and purchased some great used red 450r plastic front and backs for $100 from a local friend. All I had to do was trim the front fenders a little where the bottom front fenders meet the tank cover and drill a new mount hole. The rears needed a little shaving as well where it met the tank cover. I also have a 450r seat on it. Had a little trimming to do on seat but for 150 I have a sweet looking quad. I will post a pic later when I get one and can show you how I did it as well.

I love the new plastics too, but $450 is steep. I can sell mine, put $300 or so with it and buy an 07 or so with lower hours and in better condition of mine that came with the new plastics.

IRISH-RACER-14
08-20-2010, 10:58 AM
yeah i was thinking of getting rid of mine but i would not get half the money i paid for it. i might get 2000 now or mabey 2000 in a few years when im older. but this is my first real quad so its my baby. i was thinking of getting a generation x hood like all the kids at the nationals have but my dad wants me to use the stock hood with headlight. im not sure what ill do yet.

next ill be installing the yfz calipers to the 300ex!

IRISH-RACER-14
08-23-2010, 06:49 PM
today i installed yfz calipers onto the 300ex. they fit easily.

you have to do some cutting on the black guard that covers the brake system. it was a ***** to turn the brake lines to fit these calipers. i also bought new pads and a rebuild kit. this mod was the most effective. i can do stoppies no problem with these. they are like the kind of brakes you would see of a 1000cc superbike,

ill have pics of the calipers tommorow

Ya it really sucks that it burnt through but there is nothing i can do about it now. Just make sure you have some heat resistant tape to put on your rear fender. I was also thinks about wrapping my whole header with black exhaust heat wrap.

Is there a build thread on this mod somewhere? What years of the YFZ 450 can you pull calipers from? Do you need anything else to complete the mod ?

hi.

all you need is 2 calipers from a yfz or a raptor 700. they are all the same. u can use ur own 300ex brake lines, i would reccomend steel brake lines for the full effect. u had to cut that black plate a little bit cause the yfz caliper is actually bigger

will the YFZ450 front brake calipers fit my 1992 250x its the same as the 300ex but i upgraded my front completely to all 400ex like the shocks, a-arms, hubs, spindles etc... i wouldnt mind to try this mod but want to make sure it would fit just like yours did... your quad looks good if i would have known that those newer plastics would have fit i would have tried that instead of 400ex plastics

QuadCobbler
01-05-2011, 07:36 AM
I dont know if you notice or not but the 400ex spindles make the 300ex steer funny. just about everyone keeps there 300 spindles. I have 400 shocks and 400 arms with 300 spindels and it rides great.

i bought the quad last week and just rebuilt it so i didnt really try it out yet... but i heard the 400ex spindles and hubs are better and they were laying in my shed so i just put them on... but do you know from experience i mean did you try both the 400ex and 300ex spindles?

IRISH-RACER-14
01-05-2011, 10:59 AM
the fender will be here tommorow :D the guys at the shop said it came in and ill have it tommorow.

the yfz450 calipers will fit the 400ex and the 250x. i wouldnt have bought them only i saw a guy on the 400ex forum with them installed. they are a great help.

Search, or read around on this particular section of the forum. A couple recent threads discussed that the 400EX spindles with the 400EX aarms created the front end to "push" alot.

Most (and I) upgraded and run the 400EX aarms/shocks/tierods, but keep the stock 300EX spindles.

dont buy the 400ex spindles. they make the suspension worse.

Yeah, im the crafty type and 450 stuff is WAYY cheap so I figured I would give it a shot, too cheezy for my liking, thinking if i could get a nice mount for the 450 tank it might work, the project is kinda on the back burner, my daughter still races her 90
