After much debate on which tires to go with I decided to try what used to be the hot setup before everyone had a tire sponsor......Grooved tamers and grooved powerstar radials. I tried them out tonight for the first time and I was really impressed with how good they work. The tamers may wear quick once grooved but for $41 a tire I wont be complaining. I had a hard time finding the front powerstar tires, I originally ordered them from k and k only to get a call from them 2 days later saying the company they get them from is not returning phone calls and appers to be closed down. So I ended up finding these 2 on ebay that are still like new for $60!....anyway just thought I'd share a few pics.

Sweet I have not seen that combo in some time. The radials and grooved turfs bring back some memories.

That tire combo is old but I think it looks the best. It IMO gives any R that race ready look. Sick quad btw. I have a set of those same radial tires. WhAt is your tire and rim sizes. I don't know if I need 10x5 or 10x6 front rims. I'm in the market for hipers. Thanks

The rims are 10x5 and the tires are 145r10 which I believe makes it a 19x6x10.....

That's funny. I have a set of grooved tamers my buddy gave me that looks like that. Didn't know why he grooved them but understand now.
Thanks

did you get the 18*11 or 18*9.5s?

i still run that setup on most of mine race quads... I found some front tires at sam's or pepboys, but then you have to grove them yourself...

I went with the 18x9.5's....I saw burgard cycle still lists the front radials on their website but if they get them from the same place that k and k does they wont be available :ermm:

I have a set off those also, But the tamers suk in the thick FL sand. But I love the setup when the dirt is right.

Where did you get the grooved turf tamers? I want a set. Your quad looks nice, that's my favorite color combo red frame with blue fullbores.

you can get horse hoof trimmers for like $10 that work great for the rears... I suppose thats a bit dependent on how rural the area you live in is though.. :D

also there are different patterns you can cut into them. there is one that leaves 4 knobs in the center and it works marginally better in sandy tracks...

Haha thats a good idea with the hoof trimmers I might try that next time....I got the tamers ungrooved from dennis kirk and then had my local atv shop groove them for $10 a piece. I have seen some different patterns for sand tracks one was pretty crazy looking i will try and find the pic later and post it.

That's awesome I wonder where you get the tire groovers... Got lots of that stuff around here!

I'm going with this tire setup on my build. Glad to see someone else tried since the old school days...

I'd be interested in the tires... how much tread is left? I plan to run hipers for wheels... unless something persuades me otherwise.

If Troy is not interested in them, I'd like some details and a price. You can send me a PM.

I use the same setup on my 250r's at times. It all depends on the track. I'm down to one set of grooved tamers and another ungrooved. I have 2 sets grooved radials. Most of the mx I do, the tracks are usually wet and very loamy. Neither tire works very good there. I mainly use kenda klaw fronts and knarly rears, it seams to work for most conditions.

http://i29.tinypic.com/333z6a9.jpg wow those are unique, for san i always wanted to try a v pattern. dont have a clue if they would work lol.

good idea on the horse tool, i was gonna try those wallpaper scrapers. More or less a wide razor blade, or get a tire groover.

troy a tire groover can be bought at most dirt track race shops. maybe even jegs.
