i use royal purple 20w50 or valvoline sythetic racing formula, 20w50.

great oil and if its not purple or blue then u know to change it. i have gone a full summer on royal purple and had it come out purple and clean as can be.

Actually the color of oil means nothing.....if it is comming out clean after that long then it lacks detergents and the dirt/grime is staying in the motor and unless you only ride a few times through the summer, that is way too long to go without a oil change IMO.

thanks, im not sure, is it okay to run full synthetics in these motors, since they share motor oil with the tranny? and i also told that i doesnt really matter what oil you run if you change it every 5 hours.. i ran the all purpose yamalube 10-40.. i hate to spend 10 bucks a quart if im going to change it every 5 hours.

It is fine to use full synthetics (after break in)...I do, they need to be wet clutch approved, and weather you run "any" oil or not depends on you...to me it is a no brainer and will continue to use a good oil, it just does not make sense to me to save a couple of bucks at the expense of my motor...but to each his/her own.

Amsoil Motorcycle oil 10w40. I have tried repsol, motorex, royal purple, rotella, mobile one and yamalube. Amsoil out performed by far. engine ran smoother shifted smoother. Took the whine out of the tranny when i would race motocross. I also ran lucas petroleum based oil stabilizer. That stuff is amazing as well. The amsoil combined with the lucas you will significantly notice a difference in how your bike runs and feels.

I just know that once you use semi/full synthetic then you should stay with that.

Ran yamalube in my yfz and it went through 2 motors ... crank, top end.

Bought a ltr, been using amsoil and have had ZERO problems in the past year and a half . Still on the stock top end and this is a 100% race quad , I DO NOT play ride it. I race local A class, and 16-24 and production A class at nationals twice a year;... I also practice at tracks on this quad 1-2 times a week during summer... basically I beat the heck out of it.

If it were me...I would save the yamalube for your lawnmower.

WARNING

MIXING AMSOIL
AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils.

Yup. This is some of the best stuff and cheapest. I know the factory Suzuki guys use it too so that makes it good enough for me.

isnt rotella like thick diesel oil?

DoubleDad
10-22-2010, 01:36 PM
It is diesel oil, but it is recommended by several reputable engine builders including ATP Racing Engines. The best thing about the oil is you can but it by the gallon at WalMart relatively cheap compared to racing oils.

I just got a clarification from ATP. You do not need a full synthetic or a synthetic blend. Just the T 15-40 is recomended, even cheaper.

yeah its less then 15 a gallon! i pay 10 a quart for the full syn amsoil i run..
