Hey guys, i am wondering build an all new 250R.

I just want to do an all brand new (bone stock) 250R like this it was going out of the factory.
i do not know What year 86-87 or 88-89 should I build.
Both a very beatiful, but which is easier to find the parts.
Personally i think are the 88-89 models but I do not know.

I would want to get new honda parts as much as possible but big things like the frame were discontinuated, how can I get it do they have a few ones? Or should I look in ebay.

Can you help me guys deciding on what model build and the ways to find the parts?

just about everything is discontinued for all years of the 250R. 89's were produced in fewer numbers. 86's were produced in larger numbers.

the best thing to do is to find one(regardless of year) thats as complete and as original as possible.

if interested, pm me. i've got an '86 thats is 90% original thats for sale.

86 will be easiest to find parts, but 88/89 would be easiest to re-do the colors on.

No matter what, you missed the boat on doing a completely NEW 250R unless you spend $20K+

Your best bet is to find a completely 100% stock original machine, but they usually start at $3500+ in mint shape.

The hardest thing to find will be the plastic, unless you go with Maier, but that is not OEM, just OEM look.

Give us some more details about your budget, if you plan to ride it or garage queen it/trophy style and where you are located. It seems there are certain areas where you can find stock machines a lot more.

I think it will be hard to buy you the ATV dude, I am from Portugal, but I am very interested.

Mayde the plastics is the only thing is not gone be OEM because there are no more OEM new fenders right?

The bike is gone be a garaje bike, maybe as an investement to sell later, like the 450R brand new 2009) I bought last week, I used it a couple of times ( and I already have a little rim's scratch on it:mad: ) and now I will clean it up and maybe pack it.
I really like the quas as original because it is more hard to find a bone stock quad than an one with aftermarket parts.

Should I buy a one or just buy the parts.

yeah I already no I am gone waste something like 15000 to 20000.
But I have some advantages I will use € and the conversion benefits me.

But some parts are not gone be all new because the just are not, like frame, arms, pipes. Or are them?

If they are not I will buy it used and restore it with the parts that Honda still have.

What do you think?

I can help with the 89 stuff, my riding buddy has got a nice 89 for sale, and I've got a ton of mint 89 take off stuff if you want to build one from scratch or if you just need a reference on colors etc... I may part with this stuff, but not sure yet on that, ...extremely hard to find parts...

86/87 would be the easiest due to volume of those sold vs. 89

Goodluck.

hahaha unfortunately, yea that'll be a problem as you are waaaaay across the big pond from me. my quad does have original fenders. the only thing thats not original is the lsr axle, FMF pipe, rad valve intake and pro taper bars.

good luck with the hunt.

heys guys can you speak to me in a simple english cause I am portuguese and some parts of troybilt post I could not understand.
I understod he is offering himself to help me getting 250R parts right?

yes it is gone be a hard work but it will worth it.

I have family in NC so are you to way from it?

Do you want to do all the work yourself?

I know a guy that has all the parts necessary as well as any number of bone stock original 250R's.
He has done numerous restorations like you want to do.

I could get the parts you need and ship it directly to you. I have a friend who ships quads all over the world. It would cost less in the long run.

MAYBE even you could help me get some GASGAS parts or do a trade for one of those in Portugal?

Miguel1994
07-27-2010, 10:38 AM
Yeah man good idea, there are so many gasgas here, leave next to spain and there they are cheap.

What do you think.

What parts can you get me and can they be new and OEM, at least some of them.

I do not know if it is better to mbuy an ATV because I want it as newest as possible.

I will not do it entier by my self, my fathers' cousin is an honda dealer he will help me get all toghether.

I would also ask a guy here in Portugal to restorate some used parts like brakes and that things.

But if your friend you surely knows more about 250R can do it, better.

For an 86/87 I can get all the parts - OEM.

I have plastic and tons of other parts for restoration. 89 is a little harder because of the hood, so is 88, but I have a lot of OEM MINT parts for that like gas tank , heel guards, seat etc.

Anything that is not NEW can be refurbished with paint or powdercoat.

Miguel1994
07-27-2010, 10:48 AM
But that OEM parts that you have are new?

Does OEM mena that they are original nad new?

And what parts are you loking you for your gasgas?

Miguel1994
07-27-2010, 10:51 AM
I have been lokign for Gasgas's and they are aroud 1500 to 2500 € a price of an used one fo 2005.

To one person it will be worth the money, to another person it would not. For a bike that you want to make new OEM i think it's a great start.

Miguel1994
07-28-2010, 01:58 AM
Yeah, I think so.
I saw a few ones in north caroline, one of them is bone stock, a 86 one.
http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/mcy/1859303773.html

Maybe I will wait some time and when I have holidays I just go there and buy It.
And them lets renew it.
But it is not what I really wanted to do. i really wanted to do alll with new parts from Honda as much as possible, but that is just too expensive.

Can somebody tell me the cost Of the transportation to Portugal?

Well I sit in front of a computer all day 8 freaking hours straight, one of the many downsides to being an engineer... and the only thing that keeps my sanity is checking out some 250r stuff once and awhile and dreaming up new ideas and schemes! You're right though I do spend too much time on here. I need to stop...

How much does it cost you to ship a quad to the U.k.?

What shipping company do you use?

pilotpete
07-30-2010, 11:26 AM
it all depends on how much the quad is worth (import tax) about the $800 mark and i do the shipping myself all depends on who can do the best deal at the time but i try and ship from Cali if i can because have friends there that sort out all the paper work that side can be a nightmare......

88's are the best. 1st they are the only year that was red and, 2nd they bumped up the hp, 3rd they had an aluminum swingarm, 4th they had the headlight mounted in the hood, ect.
