Can the timing chain possibly skip without the tensioner failing? Because im almost sure my timing is off but i pulled out the tensioner and it seems to be working fine.

is it a new timing chain???

ever time my tensioner broke the chain had jumped timing
but mine didn't really run after it jumped

no its not a new chain.
and mines not running either and i think it must have jumped timing. but then when i pulled the tensioner out it seemed to be working just fine. So im wondering could it still have jumped if the tensioner was working properly?

i guess it can and i am sure it has happened to lots of people
but are u sure it is timing what happen?? did u tr to starte it oneday after no problems and it wont start.

or were u ridding it did it all of a sudden start makeing some funky sounds a then shuts down

do you have a timing key and after market rev box?

no i dont have a key or a revbox.
im not positive its the timing but i cant think of much else it would be. and i went out to start it one day and i got it started for couple minutes and then it died and i havent been able to start it since. ive cleaned the carb several times, drained the gas, and checked the plug. its got air, its got spark, its got fuel. im confused

Check the timing?

yea i would check compression if u could then open it and check timing

the only way the chain could slip is if their was some type of failure from the tensioner..

okay im probably gonna check compression tomorrow when i get home. what psi should i be looking for?

hocman123

i think 100 to 120 psi is what u want

okay ill do that soon. and if my compsressions off than its probably my timing? because i just got a new piston/rings and valves so i really dont think (hope) its either of those.

well if the compression is bad it could be a lot of things from bad timing to valve clearance being to small, seized valve or bad piston rings

or the most likely from bad compression is a seal is blown which if u had a new rebuild it could be is things were not tight properlly
