View Full Version : axle bearing replacement

i have a 2006 kfx 400 and my rear bearings are SHOT! i was just wanting to see about getting some helpful advice about replacing the bearings. i have never done this before and don't want to screw anything up. they have been bad for a while so will that mess up my axle at all since i have still been riding it?? any help would be great....thanks alot!!

I'd just pull the axle and check it to make sure its not grooved or anything. It is possible that the axle has damage so check it before putting it back in.

When you put the new bearings in, put them in the freezer over night (the night before you install them), it'll make them go in easier. I've also heard of people putting the carrier in the over to help expand the metal (again, before you install the new bearings).

if you cant get the old bearings out stick a rag in one end of the carrier and fill the whole thing with PB blaster and let it sit for awhile and keep filling it as need. the bearings come out waaay easier if you do that. unless there scolded. in that case get the hacksaw out lol. just use grease to get them in. you dont need to freeze or heat anything.

ok so i have not got around to getting my bearings yet but am now seriously going to buy some. what all will i need to take off to get the bearings out? will i need to take all the brake parts off along with the sprocket on the other side?? please help...i want to go to the dunes next weekend!! lol
