Not for tanks and hours. Run it for a heat cycle and you should be fine.

JMHO

I'm sure someone else's method will be different. Every one has thier own theory.

just run a couple heat cycles, start it let it run for 15mins let it cool fully. do that 2-4 times....

i did that then spent an hour or so just going through the gears 1st through 5th just cruising around, keeping the RPM's pretty low, then letting the engine decelerate on its own, then go rip it up!

There are alot of mixed emotions about breaking in engines. I have broken in several motors at the races, and never had an issue with them. I just gave them one heat cycle at home in the garage to make sure it would crank. After that, I treated it like any other motor.

i think i'm going to try this method. sounds just like how scro does it. if you read that there is no point in "heat cycles" I was wondering because i'm getting my quad tomorrow at 9am and i have a race at 3pm. but i think i'm gonna race. thanks all

i do one heat cycle just to check fluids and everything, then beat the hell out of it, there isnt anything that really wears in on these engines. the rings seat better if they are worked hard right away, go to fifth gear and slow down without the brake, just down shift, it helps

^^ Agreed ^^ Warm it up in shop, check for leaks and unusual noise's. Then go out and stomp on it. Ring expansion is critical for proper seal. You baby a motor during this process, it will not run to it's total potential. Just Saying! :)

I do the same as Scro, eastside400 and Ruf racing. Just start it up 1 time, check everything and ride it like normal.

I used to break my engines in easy, but I really never noticed any difference between methods, just ride it.
