I'll be there on Saturday for sure, maybe Friday. Hoping to have a good home showing for the mini's. Only problem is Red Bud is no good for putting the 50's on a kiddie track, usually the holeshot wins it. Good luck 8686, I'm sure I will see you there.

Heck yeah, Bob! I'll have to hunt ya down while I'm there! I think this year is the 3rd full season on that mx engine I had ya put together for me. It's been a strong runner.

Just walked in the door about 10 minutes ago. Turned a 4 1/2 hour drive into a 6 1/2 hour drive. Tired as hell. Hopefully I'll have time to do a write up tomorrow on my first national.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, the nationals competition is hard as hell. Lol.

just be glad you got to go. its a pretty freakin epic experience on its on. Did you qualify for the main?

I went to nationals one time, in 97. Was racing the C class, had like 70 or 80 something riders. had to finish 4th in the qualifier and I finished 5th. One more lap and I would had the guy. Last chance race, need to finish 3rd and I finished 4th... but I got to meet Denton and still had a blast watching non-stop quad racing for 4 days. (this was back with the TT race was also happening)

We sat in stop and go traffic for about an hour. Then when I was running with my trailer lights on for a little while as it got dark I lost my running lights and all dash lights. All fuses are good so maybe it's a headlight switch. First time towing with this old truck. Headlights, brake lights, and turn signals worked fine. Had to run the last hour and a half with the hazards on. We got home, tho! Lol.

Mony25, had a great time hanging out with you and your buddy. You guys are awesome. I'm glad I could help to get your quad running better. Nice 250R by the way!

Just wanted to add I counted five 250R's there racing. One was a stock geometry Laeger quad. Three were Laeger narrow CR500 link quads. One was a Roll Design Lobo 250R. There were also a few hybrids.

On a side note, I have to mention one of the Laeger narrow front CR500 link quads (which was beautiful, by the way) had a 431 Puma in it! Needless to say, he got the holeshot on the start I could watch of him. Awesome quad.

Lol! Yeah I was the one bothering you when you were about to race! Damn! I wish I knew that was you! Sick *** quad! And nice holeshot, too!

Also, get a damn case saver on that engine! Someone has to make one to fit a 15 sprocket.

Another side note of this Red Bud trip. (I'll probably randomly post a lot of them as I think of them. Lol.) My Laeger 250R has all Baldwin components and graphics on it. I asked Mark Baldwin if he could sign it and he gladly signed both rear Baldwin number plates. He also was sitting on it reminiscing about 250R's. I took it over to the pro pits and there were a few guys over there checking it out. One guy from Baldwin even raced my quad a few years back in a 12 hour race! Pro rider Pat Brown was sitting on it, too. I thought that was pretty cool.

I was talking with Keith Little as well and he said he doesn't have any 250R stuff left. He told me he wishes he kept some of it. He said Joe Byrd has a few of his old quads still.

Also, I brought my Walsh 250R frame and subframe to give to Walsh to check it all over and put it back to a 250R frame. It had been converted to run a Blaster engine in it. I was talking with Mike Walsh for a while. That was cool, too. I can't wait to get that frame back and start working on it.

Did you ask any of the pro riders if they miss the 250r, and what they think of 4 strokes? It would be nice to hear a truthful response from the guys who race them all the time.

I didn't ask them but that's just the problem. You aren't likely to get a truthful response, especially from the faster guys. They get paid and supported to tell people how good the new quads and products are. They wouldn't tell you the truth even if they wanted to.

redred55, did you get your puma running the way you want it to? I was talking to Pete (I live 25 minutes from him and he builds my motors as well) and it sounds like after trying the cr 125 cdi box that helped out a bunch?

What was the results of your races, I think it's neat to see some guys want to race our 250's still. I still ride mine in the dunes out here and it's funny alot of people don't know what it is.

It's been a long road trust me but the thing is now everything I want it to be. The biggest problem was the pipe/carb combo. The Shearer inframe just didn't work for what I need(low/mid power). I tried the cr125 ignition to help the pipe out and it helped but I still wasn't happy. I settled with an LRD big bore pipe(that I ran on my 350PV)with a modded stinger(1 1/4) and a Lectron 44 carb. I am running a 15/34 gearing that no other mx quad could ever pull! I bet I could pull a 3rd gear start!!! It's honestly funny how much roll on power I have now-I don't think you could be in the wrong gear on this beast. As for my racing, I missed qualifying for the +30 class. I got 9th in the first heat and 7th in the LCQ. I'd like to blame it on the Miller lites the night before the race but it's really my lack of riding! The best part was the four poke riders getting smoked to the first turn! HAHA!!

sorry you didn't qualify but nice that you have it running the way you want it to. Pete was telling me about your LRD BB pipe only having a 1 1/8" stinger from LRD and I told him that was odd because I had one of these laying around for awhile that I just put on my brother in law's 330 and mine came with 1 1/4" stinger but I bought mine when Arlan was still the owner of LRD, maybe they changed them over time. I had a Pete built 431 cc puma and ended up selling it to a nice young Canadian kid that was going to do more justice with it than me. I have Pete building me a 81 mm bore stock stroke Puma with low port timings for a play dune bike that I can use alot of the stuff I already own (pipes, carbs, etc) for it to play with.

Good call on your new build. I probably should have gone smaller from the start. As you know these 431's have a little more vibration than the stock stroke you are building. Should work out awesome. I just figured the cost was just a bit more for the big dog so hell with it!!

well that sucks but glad you guys made it home safe. I had a great time hanging with you as well. It was nice to be able to ride and hang with someone that is on a r. since i have had mine that is the first time i have rode with one lol. this is probabally the 6th or 7th year i have went now and that is by far the most 250rs i have seen there. Oh and thanks again for the help on the quad and the coil wire hope i can return the favor sometime. thanks for the compliment on the quad yours looks amazing as well.

I just wanted a 370 cc motor and am getting that with 81 mm bore and stock stroke. (371 cc's) I didn't want to spend the money on balancing the crank like you do on the big puma's and I am using a real light ESR 81 mm piston that comes in their 420-430 cc kits. I was actually going to use one of these cylinders (esr) but at this bore size they just isn't enough material left around the steel sleeve to make a good reliable duner rider motor. I think this thing should run pretty good and with this size motor should run pretty well with off the shelf 250 pipes and carbs and won't viberate with the stock stroke.

Here I am doubling Larocco's Leap. The face of that jump has to be 15 or 20 feet tall. Anyone that has ridden this track can vouch for some of the jumps they have. The hump that I'm about halfway to is the double. The triple landing is out of the picture. No quads even attempted to triple the Leap.

Looks like an awesome track. Where is red bud located? I wish I had the balls you have to commit to some of those jumps. I have only raced my 300 ex and it didn't have any power o hit good jumps and I don't have the r ready to race yet but ill hopefully have enough power and courage to hit bigger ramps on the r.
