truck tires?

so ive been looking at tires for my truck for a while now, ive done some research, but i wanted a direct opinons of what mud terrains or all terrains that you guys are running, the truck has mud grapplers on it now, and they are way too expensive for me and wear fast. Ive been looking at toyo open countrys and kumho mts. just looking for some opinions. oh, and what would be closest to a 33x10.5x16: 285/75/16 or 305/70/16?

ive got the dick cepek mud country's and i love em. and closest to that is the 285/75/16, the 305's are 12.5 wide

toyo open country mt. They have a good wear. quite and great for on and off road. I been doing my research the past month as im in market as well. and these seem to be the way to go.

Having just bought some M/T's a couple months ago I would say, if it's mostly a street truck go with A/T's. They ride better and wear better. I wish I would've bought some A/T's instead, another bonus is they're cheaper.

It depends on what your truck is and what you use it for. I have a 3500 Silverado and the soft compound on most the Toyo's, Nitto's, and Kumho's makes them wear very quickly on a heavy truck. I just use mine to pull the trailer so I don't go out and beat the hell out of it mudding.

After wearing out a set of Toyo open countrys in way less than 20,000 miles I bought some BFG A/Ts and love them. About half the price, less noise, better wear and they do just as well if not better in the snow. They have pulled me through the sand, and mud in several riding spots so I am officially a BFG fan for my diesel.

mickey thomspon MTZ. i just put another set on my super duty; i had over 65,000 miles on the first set before i hit something on the freeway and shredded one this spring. decided to replace them all, tho all were still above the wear bars. here's a pic of two that i sold (kept the third for a spare):

they have great road manners for an M/T. the few times i had them in the mud they cleaned out great, they spent plenty of time on the sand and were great, better in the rain than the BFG muds i had on my last truck, and respectable on icy roads (for a 12.5" wide tire!). noise isn't bad, definitely waay quieter than a mud grappler, claw, or any of the interco tires. not to mention my treadwear story speaks for itself.

I have sport kings a/t on my truck and they wear like iron, I have about 40,000 miles on them and they still have plenty of tread left. They are a bit noisy though.

The best mud tire hands down is the firestone destination MT. I ran them on several trucks and they were great even on heavy trucks. They arent to expensive either.

To the person who suggested BFG AT-THEY SUCK. Any other all terrain is better than them. They load up to much in mud, snow and sand compared to anything else cause the tread voids are to small. They suck in the rain as well. I liked them till I tried other stuff and was amazed-I wont go back. They were top of the line 25 years ago, not now anymore.

All terrain tires are better for the road and will wear much better. Unless the truck is taken mud bogging every week I would buy an AT. I would suggest the firestone destination AT as they wear great, have excellent all around traction and are cheap. Also the dick cepek fun country II, general grabber AT2 (BFG basically but MUCH improved) or the dunlop radial rover as well as the bridgestone dueler revo2. All of them will serve you well tho.

Mud tires are much softer and grip well in mud, sand and more slushy snow, they do poorly in very hard packed stuff and ice. Buy them only if you offroad alot.

Make sure you buy the proper load range for tires as well. Ive seen PLENTY of idiots who the tireshop just installed the size they wanted and didnt realize the tire didnt have enough plys for the heavy truck. IE P285/75/16 (which is actually a PASSENGER tire and not a heavy truck tire!) Dont buy anything with the prefix "P" you want an "LT" or light truck tire.

If the truck is anything fullsize 1/2 ton it needs at least C range if not D range tires depending on what its equipped with. D will ride stiffer than C b/c it has 8 plys and not 6 like the C.

If you got a 3/4 ton or 1 ton it needs D if not E range (E has 10 plys and rides like crap unless your truck is HEAVY F250/350, etc or loaded down).

i dont see how you got that out of them tires.... post up how long you new ones last...

I just got a set of the new
Nitto trail grapplers and very pleased with them so far and they were about $65 per tire cheaper than toyo's, mickeys and bfg's where I got mine at !
