alright i am in the process of building up my 400s engine with a stage II cam and a 416 bore, including the pipe rev limiter and k&n would the stock carb be able to suck in enuff air or would a quicksilver/lectron be a good investment?

this is only if i really should cause im a little mad i need to spend 400+ dollars on a carb.

Since I've got that particular combo, I'll give you my opinion. Mine runs just fine with the stock carb. However it still lacks the top end pull that I'd like. From what I've been reading as of late, the stock 400EX head lacks the breathing ability to run to it's full potential with a long duration high lift cam such as the Stage II Hot Cam. If I were you, I'd have the head ported at the same time and do the carb later. That's the route I'd go if I had to do it again. You can always buy the bigger carb later on, but porting requires the motor torn down again.
