View Full Version : Valve Adjustment

I went riding with a buddy this past weekend and the quad was running awesome. However, my buddy jumped on it for a quick loop and thought that the valve noise sounded a little louder than his bike. (Both 400ex's).

I would consider myself pretty mechanically inclined and have all of the repair manuals and instructions I believe I need. What I'm looking for is other specific tools beyond a gap tool that I may need and if anyone has the strong opinion that "valve adjustment should be done at the dealer" etc etc

How often do you guys have your valves adjusted?

I think the valve covers are 17mm or 19mm and you need some big allen heads to get the flywheel covers off to see the marks on the flywheel. other than that your usual stuff to get the fenders off, 12mm and 10mm will be fine. a 10mm wrench for adjusting the actual lifters and a flat head screwdriver should be it.

allen heads are 6mm and 10mm iirc.
