Hey guys..i've been running 300 ft dirt drags a lot lately and i've been doing alright in them, near the top in most of my classes, but i want more lol..i've got the white bros all around cam that came with my 400 still in there, and i was wondering if the stage 3 hotcam would be a good improvement over that for the drags?

Most definitely. Especially seeing how you have a 12.5:1 440, you will benefit from a more radical cam. The all around cam is good, but is more or less choking your setup if you want to do drags. With the stage 3 you get minimal loss in low end power with a huge hit in the mid to top end.

how about for a 11:1 440? i race flat track and also do a lot of trails. i was going to go with the stage 2, but im not sure now.

You'd be fine at 11:1 also. The stg3 isn't all that wild but I wouldn't recommend it for any less.

okay, now i checked it out on the hotcams web site and it says " Stage 3: single-cam motor. More top-end power. Designed specifically for Hot Rods big bore stroker kit. Uses stock valve springs and rockers. *Does not use auto-decompression mechanism. "

does it not matter if i have a stroker or not? and i cant seem to find a stage 3 anywhere other then the hotcams website which is $200, i can get the stage 2 on ebay brand new for $130

i have a lot of mods on my 440 and when i went to the stage 3 it slowed me down with the stage 3 i was running 8.70 all day long with the stage 2 i run 8.40 all day long on motor. we do have nos but no times on it. i run 1/8 mile if your going to run 300' dirt drags i would go with the stage 1 maybe stage 2 cam and do some gearing. you can call hot rod and ask the what to run there number is 515-402-8100. what all mods do you have ? mine are.

1. 440 12.5.1
2. decked cyl. .025
3. p&p head
4. 450r carb fcr styl
5. 450 t/chain
6. stage 2 h/c
7. AC air box no lid
8. K&N air filter
9. 16/38 gearing now going 16/36
10. 15 to 20 hp shot of nos just added no times yet will add saterday.

i bought the bike in february and haven't touched the motor. as far as i know, it has the wiseco 440 big bore kit, 11:1 comp. and as for exhaust, i have no clue, it has no name or number o it and has no distinctive shape. it looks like something off a street bike actually. UNI air filter/W lid because i ride muddy trails all the time. its a keihen carb so i am assuming its the stocker.

i will go check gearing and get a pic of the exhaust also.

does it not matter if i have a stroker or not? Absolutely does not matter whether a stroker or not.

I just realized what cam you have currently and even the stg1 would be an improvement. Maybe for now the stg2 would be the way to go.

haha yeah im goin with the 11:1 tho for sure. i can barley afford pump gas as it is.... lol

i modded my stock muffler to a straight through design and hopefully gettin that 440 kit.
i told my buddy who has been spending all kinds of money on his to get it faster that ill beat him with mine stock once i get it running.... well now i wont be lying!! (about beating him)
i just gotta throw some dirt on the new cylinder to blend it in

The JE 88.5mm is the way to go. It's a 430, uses the BB sleeve and then you can go to the 89mm next time the cylinder needs service.

You seriously ought to be looking into an exhaust and intake before you even touch the engine. A stage 3 is best complimented by some head/valve work, for you I'd do a stage 2. But again, first I'd put a full exhaust and a K&N filter on that thing.

But that's just me...

im going to need a filter soon, so yea, will be going with a K&N. and as for exhaust, i still have no idea what i've got, it sounds great and doesn't seem to be restrictive at all.

And believe me, i would LOVE to get a full yosh set up or something but im turning 17 soon and monies tight. either way, i have to go into the engine soon because it smokes until its warm so i gotta replace the rings and valve seals.

That header is no bigger than the stock diameter; it's restrictive.

I hear ya about money being tight though. In which case saving over time is the way to go. I'd still say get the exhaust first, but again, it's your quad. If you get all your motor work done at once I guess that would save some hassle.
