is there anything that much different from the 05+ to the 99-04 aside from having reverse and different plastics? If so what is it? I know the 99-04 pretty damn well so hopefully that knowledge will transfer over to the 05+.

The main differences are the reverse, the plastics, gearing was changed from 15/38 to 14/39 and the tail light is also a brake light. Other than that, they are practically identical.

awesome, i said in the other thread im thinking of flipping it for some cash but i may just keep it and have some fun with it. I miss having a bike to ride and i think ill keep this one stock bore and stock cam for a little while. As long as itll wheelie which i know it will itll have enough power for me. Ill get my suspension set up again with a-arms, shocks, axle, and get my wheels and tires back how i like them, pick up some nerfs, and call it a day lol

Can you fit the new style plastics on a 2002 400ex?

Also on the '05 and newer ones, The needle in the carb is not adjustable and they have the "D" shaped A/F screw. You can get a carb rebuild kit for a '99 -'04 carb and it will come with an adjustable needle and the slotted A/F screw if you want. Just makes for easier and quicker Tweaks IMO.
