Alright so my stock shift lever is stripped, i had 1 heat and the finals left for racing so we put a piece of a beer can in there to take up the extra slack, it was actually better then when i first got the quad, absolutely no wiggle room for it. PERFECT!

it was great for the 3rd and final heat, which i won. and then in the finals i was passed on the outside by an old 250r stroker who then continued spinning until he spun out in front of me. Because of this, i had to slam on my brakes and shift down quick as there was only 1 lap left and i as in the lead. when i shifted down the piece of can gave way and the shifter was hanging down, and with nerf bars, it was impossible to shift, so i was stuck in a gear too slow for the remaining of the race and somehow finished 1st. :D which was my first Finals win in the few race nights i've been to.

ON TO THE POINT, sorry. my shift lever is garbage and i need a new one by friday and ordering one off ebay would take too long and the local Honda dealer if anything will have a stock one for an outrageous price. so i looked on RMATV. has anyone ever ran the tusk shift lever? and how is it? http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?navType=type&webTypeId=112&navTitle=Handlebars-Control&webCatId=12&keyword=SHIFT+LEVER&prodFamilyId=3029

Good quality? worth it? will it last?

Ive been running some tusk stuff and have been happy with the quality of the parts and not having to pay top dollar for them. I would say give them a try. Also just make sure the splines are good on the shift shaft. If they are messed up you will have to welled the shifter on or split the case and replace the shaft.

Stay with a steel lever, those aluminum ones will bend and you will be in the same boat.
My lever fell off one day and the spline where the bolt goes through snapped in half.
I had only two hours on this new motor and I didn’t have the money to break the case apart and replace the shaft, so I welded it in place and it’s been there for over two years and still works great.
Yes I know it’s not the right way to do it but it worked.

Just make sure you don’t put too much heat on the shaft or you’ll melt the seal and then you’ll be forced to break the case apart.
I used a mig welder and had a friend poor water on the lower part of the shaft as I was welding it, to keep it cool.

However you fix it just use a steal lever or it will bend.

Good lock and congratulations on the big win. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-083.gif

Thanks for the replies guys.

slightlybent, have you ever bent an aluminum shifter? haha, based on your screen name, i would say yes ;) but if not, i think i will order the tusk lever if the honda dealer doesn't have anything.

And no, the shaft is not stripped at all. i made sure of that. the lever has been loose before so i just grinned down where the bolt pinches the lever onto the shaft so it would hold it on tighter, but now it is hopeless, the lever is almost perfectly round inside :p

No I have never used one but some of my friends have and they have all bent and they had to get a steal one. You can try it and see if it works for you, but be prepared to buy another one just in case.
But to be fair I don’t know if they all had it set a little high because of there boots getting in the way, some raise the shifter up a notch so it makes it easier to shift with boots on.

I don’t do that because if you land to hard on the shifter while jumping you can bend the shifter forks and then your screwed.

But again you can try it if you like. It may work for you.
The big selling point for the aluminum is weight but how much are you saving? A shift lever is pretty light anyway. You could take a dump before you ride and shed more weight then that.
And I have used the aluminum can trick and it dose work for awhile. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-083.gif

Oh and by the way slightly bent refers to my mental state not my machine http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/spezial/Christz/Christz_pillepalle.gif

Yea, i guess the Aluminum one just looks better too. I know thats why i was thinking of buying it, plus its a whole lot cheaper.

Look at it this way, if it striped the teeth off (I’m assuming the stock one) then you may be hard on it. So an aluminum one would have softer teeth and may strip again.
Just something else to consider.http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-083.gif

yea i see where your coming from, but i just ordered the stock one from the dealer for $47 including the bolt, idk if they ordered the rubber piece for me too or not :s if not i'll just wrap it with electrical tape.

but it wasn't me who stripped it, it was loose when i bought the quad in february and it took till now to finally give out.

Like i always use clutch when shifting down, i don't powershift, and just 2 weeks ago i started powershifting up. so i don't think i was hard on it.

I think you’ll be happy with the one you ordered, just make sure it’s tight this time. haha!! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aktion/action-smiley-083.gif
