so i just bought an 06er, and the guy hadnt ridden in almost 2 years, so i had to replace the battery. and now ive noticed if it is on an incline turned of in gear, it slips. It also jumps when i try to start it in gear, and wont roll when off and in gear with the clutch in.

any ideas? ive tryed adjusting the cable on the motor part, but not the perch.

almost sounds like clutches arent adjusted right and slipping then the coasting is either because its to steep of a hill or it has low compression

so what should i adjust in the clutches?

its normal. clutch isnt meant to hold like that, its a wet clutch, when its all warmed up it should be easier to do what you are saying but it still is better to start in neutral

alright thanks all,

and i was just riding and i pulled the clutch in after 5th gear, and it died. it also dies if you press the throttle about a quarter inch fast. it kind of seems like it knocks too

sounds like some jetting issues and the honda motors always have a fairly loud knocking sound.

start by adjusting the clutch cable on the bars.If that isn't enough then adjust down on the motor.Adjust alittle at a time, then try and start in gear with lever pulled. If it jumps repeat the steps untill it stops.

Like eastside400 said, everything u explained is normal, especially when the clutch/oil is cold.

When ur on an incline with the bike off, thats probably the engine turning over that is letting the bike roll, not the clutch slipping.

If you do this u will have no lever free play and the clutches will never grab 100% even with the lever all the way out.

Adjust the clutch according lever free play, not by how the bike starts in gear.

Guess i should have used more detail.Your right you always want some free play.Thats why there is dual adjustments. If your bike is trying to take off when trying to start it in gear you'll need to adjust more then the free play.
