Long story short I ride ATC's and bought a 400EX last week and have been riding non-stop since I got it BUT it is a little slow for me and I wanna start racing in the ITP quad cross series next month so I am debating on throwing money at my 400EX or upgrading to a KFX450R. I can get one for abut 6k out the door brand new. Obviously it is faster and nicer then the 400EX but is it honestly worth the money? I am going to be selling my 400EX and 350X to help pay for the KFX....
Thanks in advance!

Ok I guess I should be more specific, I wanted to know how the KFX handled compared to the 400EX and that kind of stuff. Obviously it is faster but a lot of the reviews say it has very twitchy or nervous steering where I feel my 400EX is very predictable and smooth. I don't want to spend $6,000 if I don't have to. I really like my 400EX but I also really really like the KFX (although I've never ridden one).

Not gonna lie the kfx450 isnt a monster unless you put money in it. When i rode my buddies stock kfx450 it felt like my piped 400. It handles better due to the suspension and he had a good set of tires but once i got works shocks they handled about the same. If you were going to race quadcross id start with an ltr450. Better setup for that type of racing right out the box

Like a piped 400? Dude your on crack. lol ( just playing bro )
The kfx is twitchy but its a great quad. Your gonna have to put money into any quad to get it where you like it. Once you put the big 3 into the kfx ( pipe, intake, fuel controller ), the quad is a beast.
i will agree though, if your on a budget and gonna race, the LTR is one route to go because its already wide.

You guys gotta remember here in CA we have tp pay licensing and registration which adds about $1000 to the price. I went back and talked to him we are gonna try and work out a deal tomorrow for less then 6, if I can't get it less then 6 then I am gonna walk, I don't need it that bad.

Well I am going into the dealership tomorrow to talk to the guy but I really don't know if I should do it. No one from what I can see has said it is really any greater then if I were to put new suspension and a few engine mods on my 400EX and that's disappointing. I was hoping to hear some good reviews, or at least better ones to help justify spending $5k on a new quad.

Your on a big time 400ex website. thats why. All the quads have there problems. Kawasaki's are kinds twitchy and lots of vibration but they are good quads. The 400ex has been around for like 20 yrs with no significant upgrades. if you wanna race go with KFX

i owned/rode/raced a 400ex for about 3 years..had lots of fun on it. ended up eventually buying a trx450r. loved it.had some mods..nothin crazy..piped/letted/stage 2 cams/revalved and resprung front shocks.. loved it , raced it all last season.thought it was great. then this spring i gave my wife the 450r to race and i picked up an 08 kfx. it's still stock but i love the feel of it and the handling. i've had it for 3 months now and race it stock( lack of money for hop-ups..lol) but i don't feel it being twitchy..the steering feels effortless to me.much easier to steer /turn than the 450r was. and it's waaayyyy more responsive to what i do in the air. feels alot lighter, thats for sure. and my father in law has the same quad, but with a pipe, programmer, and intake..and it is definetely a much much stronger quad. very competetive. i think you'll be happy with it. imo , i wouldn't waste time dumping tons and tons of money into your 400ex. it'll never be a 450. my wife wanted to keep her 400ex and dump alot of money into it.and i talked her out of it and gave her my 450r. if you can get it for the price you want..i would do it..

If you are going to race...look at the LTR or YFZ, depending on where you are racing.

Just buy a used one, you may even find one with some mods. Personally I'll never buy new again.
