I found a set of front calipers off of a 2008 YFZ on ebay for $35 last week. I had read on here somewhere that they would bolt up but nobody has ever tried to get them to work. I decided that i would try them, and i can honestly say they bolt right up and work awesome. I think this was the best 35 bucks i've ever spent on my quad. i'll post pictures first thing in the morning

Oh and another question everyone had was if the stock master cylinder would work, and it works just fine, no more spongy brakes. the farthest i can pull the lever is half-way to the grip.

But here's the pictures

FINALLY! I had read this, and posted about it. Finally somebody tried it. I'll start sharking for yfz calipers, though everybody else will probably do the same and I won't be able to find a deal. Kind of like 450r front shocks, haha. Thanks for the clarification.

Thats awesome to know. Although I have no really issues with the stock ex brakes. What is the real benefit?

That's pretty cool. Twin piston calipers with SS lines.... That's got to stop on a dime. Like endo easy on a dime.

the stock calipers are single piston, the yfz calipers are twin piston, which means you have the same amount of brake fluid pushing two pistons against a much larger brake pad....long story short, they give you alot more stopping power than your factory brakes could ever dream of.

very easy, all you have to do is tap the lever and it's nosed-down, you actually pull the lever back and it stands on the front tires instantly

I think I was the one who first asked about the yfz front brakes a few months back, and was SUPPOSE to try it myself with the yfz brakes off my brother's banshee......but I just never took the time to try it. but anyways I scored a set of front calipers today off ebay for 36$ shipped so I'll be getting my front brakes fixed soon. right now my brakes are shot and wont even lock up the front tires in grass

you got me wanting to do this now...lol.

I will if they are lighter at all?

they're about the same weight as the stockers, maybe a few ounces heavier.but that ain't really gonna hold your quad back on a drag strip

yea I first seen some one mention it in the honda 450r brake topic but nobody took much notice untill I made a new thread on it asking about it. but lately ive not even messed with or rode my 400, havent really had time or intrest in it, seems like everybody I used to ride with is starting to give it up. hell I still even have a yfz fcr carb that I havent even tried out on my ex yet.

that's the way it's getting to be around here, plus people aren't letting us ride on their property now. I've got a couple of buddies that still ride and we usually load up and go ride through the mountains

I have one guy from Wisconsin who I ride with that I have been friends with for years that has property and a cabin just down the road from me. He comes up on the weekends and we usually ride, drink, shoot stuff and that sort of things. His quad is out of commission right now due to the last ride and a bent shift fork. (Polaris Outlaw 500)

I am actually starting my new job today and I will not have much time to ride either. But....that will give me a better chance to pull it apart and build it exactly how I want it.

i've been offered a job at a motorcycle shop working on street bikes that i'm thinking of taking. I need money to buy a lift kit and tires for my truck and buy my powder coating equipment. After that i have my Toyota project to start on.

So are we using the 400ex braided SS lines or yfz braided ss lines?

the calipers are a good find, but is it just me or is part of the pad not being used.. will that have wear issues?

I bolted on my yfz calipers today and im very impressed. I have about 50$ in the setup, including brand new brake pads. I reccomend this setup anyday over the honda 450r front brakes. mine stops so much better now.

I have to do this, gonna try and order everything next week. Just to clarify for myself and others what you need is:

2004-09 YFZ 450 calipers
Brake pads for a YFZ450

And then everything else is just 400EX? It just bolts and goes?

I just picked up a set on ebay that came with the master cylinder. Does anyone know if the yfz master would be better than the ex?

I redid my lines and put stainless lines on the front and bled them good-it stops on a dime now. total cost was like 40 bucks.

yeah that's all you need. The stock master cylinder works perfect, but if you got another one with the calipers use it if you want. They need no modifications, they bolt right up and are ready to use

I am not going to use the set that I bought. If anyone needs a set with pads, and master cylinder shoot me a pm.
