They are different shocks though, just set-up similarly. I believe both are LT though.

Pretty funny how 2 people in a different thread on this same site told me the castor was the same when i knew for a fact it was not.

I have heard that the caster was different but the yamaha site does not mention it.

yeah so i was in the shed last night 2:20 am adjusting some things and i have a 400ex sitting in front of me, i remembered i put a set of warrior hubs on the 400ex and fit perfect so i thought id do the same to the 450x and it worked plus it adds about an inch to each side so its as wide as the 450r now
the only issue i ran into is the axle thread on the end is a little short so you have to either drill out the cotter pin hole or use a smaller cotter pin best bang for the buck plus there alot stronger i have hipers so i can swap the hubs with no issues

no not on the 400ex i just did it to put different tires on but the 400ex makes the yamaha wider

The frames are the exact same on the R and X. The initial castor setting was changed with different a-arms taking it from 5 degrees to 4 but didn't fix the problem becuase of the frame mount positions the castor is variable through the suspension travel and it changes the opposite the way it is supposed to making it handle bad for xc racing. You can fix it with a castor braket and aftermarket a-arms.

Its funny how they say it comes with long travel shocks what the heck is that supposed to mean that is just sales gimmick. When does a shock become "Long travel"? Any manufacture could claim that their quad is long travel.

The X shocks were built/valved/sprung specifically for the X and it's shorter a-rms/leverages. The R shocks are valved/sprung differently as well.....for the longer a-arms, etc.

Yamaha can call these shocks long-travel all they want - they definitely perform as well if not better than the long travel suspension I have spent plenty of money for in the past on my previous MX quads! :)

the fronts don't work good for xc racing becuase the shafts are too big and also the shock bodies are also to big causing setup issues you cant get them to be plush and not blow through the travel.
