'01 400ex

i recently replaced my left lower a-arm on my '01 400ex. I bought a used part on ebay that came off an '04 400ex, in the description it said that it was compatible, and it does fit but it is a couple inches shorter than my other. Does anyone know if they changed the length on the '04 models? Also i bought the bike used a few years ago so maybe they are long arms, i wasn't told that they were but how do i check to see? Any answers are greatly appreciatted. thank you for your help.

An '04 should fit an '01. The ones you have on the '01 must be aftermarket.

thats easy, measure the width and then check against the stock width.
