look in the grass in the second video at 4:14 lol

Josh pretty much admitted he did something at the start when he was talking to the mechanic at the end... wtf is up with that? Respect lost for him if hes doing crap like that and thinks its a joke.

i think they meant hes too far back from the gate and they think hes getting rolling starts. im not sure though

I've heard people say this is an advantage before, and I just don't get it. If anything, I would think it would be a disadvantage. The gate is dropping at the same time for everyone, and nobody really knows when the gate is going to drop, right? Then how is he getting a rolling start, if he is going off when the gate moves?

And if it is an advantage somehow and it's legal, why doesn't everyone do it instead of complaining about it?

This is coming from an XC guy, so don't flame too hard.:p

the point of a rolling start is that you start a little farther back and feather the clutch so your slowly moving and when the gate drops you dump the clutch from there.

many people say it helps but im not sure. i know i wouldnt want to roll to far and have the gate hit my wheels

A rolling start no mater how small is an advantage and they all know this. I saw somewhere where they had incorporated a rear gate to keep you from getting too far back in the gate. This would salve the problem and there would be no more cheating.

ive seen starts where guys are slowing rolling up to the gate but never thought it was them trying to get a "rolling start" just figured they to far back, lol

that would be hard as hell to time that right:eek2:

places like southwick and jolly rogers you have to "drop" into the gate. they have like a big culvert pipe at the other end of the gate and the concrete is lowered so you drop into it and you cant go further back then the pipe. its a good idea

i think that the main reason that it is faster to sit back is so that you are moving faster when you drive over the gate and it doesnt hold u up as much...ive tried it, not in a race, and you get over the gate faster

The point of it is so your wheels are already rolling when the gate drops. Which means it wont spin as much. If you get it right it does help. But miss the gate drop a real little bit and the other riders will be across you.

From the AMA Pro ATV Rule Book

d.) All starts will be conducted with a mechanical backward-falling gate. If a backstop board is present, the rear tires may not extend past or rest upon the board.

so if there is not a board to stop you its not illegal???

years ago i had help from a Pro TT champion, Jackie Medows. We were at an Arenacross race one time and the guy ALWAYS ran up to the gate and dropped the lever as soon as he got to it. He noticed that so he backed me up about 3 feet and when the guy got to the lever, i took off. well i would be about 2-3 bike lengths in front of the next person. The fellow racers freaked out and stopped the race saying that was illegal. We asked them to show us in the rule book where that was illegal. and they said it wasnt in the rule book. so, needless to say. we line up a the gate again, and i was in the first corner before they were halfway down the holeshot. i look back at that now and get a chuckle http://supermotojunkie.com/images/smilies/Laughing%20rolling.gif

That’s the reason the gate keeper should very the drop so you can’t anticipate it.

That track, millville does have a backstop. In the 2 wheel world the riding schools have taught you to do the rolling technique. been going on for years, but over time the backstops that exist have been getting tighter, it seems.

At the very end of the video you can see cody gibson did this too. Obviously he didnt have the same result but he has been getting good holeshots especially for not having such great gate picks. I thought it was josh at first because of the suzuki but then noticed the graphics, he is about a foot back farther than the guy next to him.
I dont really think the technique is cheating depending on how much you roll. Ive seen kids who count the gate drop and that is just risky relying on the gate keeper to be the same every time. But it usually works, its just one bad start can mess up a whole season. I hold the brake and slowly let off the clutch, I roll a little bit but its not like im carrying momentum.

I didn't watch the video, but was at the race at Millville. In one of the motos Creamer was sitting up on the backstop right before the start. Baldwin started pointing at him trying to get someones attention which resulted in Creamer dropping off it before the gate dropped.

here is a quick run down on getting a "rolling start"...

"an object that is in motion will increase speed faster then the object that is stationary."

so the idea is to have your bike in any kind of forward motion as the gate is ready to drop. this will help with rear tire traction and will help your bike hook instead of having that initial hard hit when you let out the clutch. (slip or no slip of the clutch. doesnt matter.) and like someone stated before, it will also deff help you get your front wheels over the gate easier then if you were standing still. but please remember, if your front wheels go over the gate way early and before it hits the ground, most likely your rear wheels will hit it as its falling. no good.. the KEY to a "rolling start" is to time the gate perfect and make sure you do not creap up to close. or your deff screwed. thats why it is always important to watch the gate dropper over the course of the day or weekend in order to figure out his timing process. cause after a while, most 'droppers" will end up following some sort of pattern without even knowing they are doing it. (thats todays free lesson of the day) also make sure you try and start as far back as possible. in some cases cant happen cause of the "drop in gates" "back wheel boards" "moto dads b***hing" whatever the case maybe. but its deff a game of cat n mouse. you gotta be slick with it. there are a few tricks of the trade you can always attempt in order to get that "rolling start" without being called a cheater. even with a "wheelboard and or B***hing moto dad" standing right next to ya. but ill keep those secrets for the few riders i help train n coach.

now remember boys and girls, if you are attempting a "rolling start" everything you knew about doing holeshots and body position ect, will have to change in order for a "rolling start" to work 100% to ur advantage. cause i see alot of guys and girls "TRYING" these kinda starts. and in the end, it still doesnt work for them. whyyyy???? Body Position!!! (hint hint)

You're a moron. He's joking around. I'd be sorta annoyed too if I had that many friend requests.

If I was approached after a race like that by someone claiming I cheated, I can assure you I would not have been as relaxed as Creamer. They way I look at it, if his tires wern't over the box, hes good to go and stop complaining that someone else got a better holeshot.

haha he was just joking. Creamer should probably make a fan page like Wimmer. Thats what a lot of the pro athletes do so that they dont have to deal with a ton of people wanting to be friends with them on their personal accounts.
