So what are the best nerfs for my 400EX? I don't want to spend a ton on them since I ride trails and will probably be taking them on and off a lot (unless you guys can recommend a good nerf bar that is ok for really rough trails). I am going to be racing in an ITP Quad Cross event in August and nerf bars are required.
Thanks
- Jim

I was looking at the Tusk ones on RockyMountain, they have good reviews and are cheap. Link to the AC ones?

I am also looking for some hand guards, something whacked my knuckle today and it still hurts really bad so I am sold on the hand guard idea.

If your looking for nice handguards I reccomend the protaper guards. Look awesome and have held up well for me so far. They clean up really nice too

Just get the Tusk nerfs and Tusk hand guards. You'll have both shipped for $165. If you're looking to meet requirements and get some protection on a budget you just can't beat them.

I would really like to be able to use the stock heel guards if I can since I'll be taking the nerfs on and off for trail and MX riding.

If you like the stock heal guard setup you can very cheaply install 450R foot pegs and get some better footing. You have to trim the plastic guards up a little but they are worth the work. That's what I did on mine. I had a real nice pro-peg style nerf setup from WB back in 02 and as much as I loved the footing with those giant beasts nerfs just didn't work with my style of riding and I ended up going to the 450r pegs. So I understand where you're coming from and if I were you I'd just go with Tusk since you'll be taking them on and off.
