I am just about to order a red carbon fiber hood scoop for the 400 and was just wondering if the red really matches the plastic, and how the hood scoop mounts? i know you have to cut off the lights, but are there like holes in it and you just drill the plastic?

I was thinking about gettin white 250r stock plastic with a carbon fiber hood or just get fullbore. I think it just bolts in. I would just get the black one.

I just got mine and put it on. It looks sweet. I just wish I had a digital cam to take a pic and post it. Yes the color matches your plastic perfectly. I didnt have to much trouble putting mine on. As long as you have a little bit of mechanical knowledge. The hood has 6 studs that screw into the hood and I put locktite on them so they wouldnt come out. The tops of the studs are allen wrench heads, it comes with nuts that are locknuts. What I did was hold the stud with an alllen wrench and tighten the nuts with a wrench. Just dont screw the studs all the way in on some because they might need to be longer. I started out by taking the lights out. Then I used some tape and made a straight line from the edge where the lights came out then I used jig saw to cut all the way up it. You have to cut the plastic that holds the key switch off too. Cut it down pretty low and make it kinda level. Next you just have to figure out where to mount it. What I did was get the position then press down kinda hard with the hood and that would make little marks where you wanted the holes drilled. Once I did that I took the piece where the key and neutral light is and trimmed it up to make it look nice then I JB welded (epoxy) it to the lip at the top of the hood scoop. I left that over night. Then came back and took the plastic off and bolted it together. Then put it back on. Take your time and have some patience and it will look real good. Total time for me was about an hour and a half. If you have any more questions just post them. Hope this helps everyone. It is so easy I dont know why people who race or dont need their lights dont do this mod more often. I defintely recomend getting one.

I think that the black parts on yellow 400ex's should be yellow and the fenders should be black that would look hot..

How much do you cut off the front fenders?

Evan

I cut like straight lines from where the lights were. You cut the key part off and reuse it. You dont have to cut much just enough so when you look through the hole you dont see plastic. I hope this answer's your ?

Both of those 400`s are very nice, but they would look a lot better in my garage. Either one of them would look good wrapped up sitting under the christmas tree.

That does match really good. Look good Now you need to put a number background on it and some numbers. I would go with some black backgrounds and white numbers.

X-Rider

do you have a pic of your entire quad with all your mods and the Hi Per wheels?

Evan
12-25-2001, 07:24 PM
I can get you a pic of the entire quad but my wheels and shocks are not on there b/c I ordered them and they have not come in yet. I know the shocks will be here this week but I dont know when the wheels will be in, they are slow, I ordered them direct from hiper but I think I should have ordered them from K&K ATV, they proably would have been here by now.

I like the Carbon Fiber color better than the Red. Your quad looks sweet X-Rider. I want to see a Picture after you get the shocks.

It is just a Quadtech hood scoop attached to stock plastic. Anybody can do it, it is so easy I dont see why more people dont do it. I highly recommend doing this mod, it improves the looks alot. Everyone says "is that a 250R" They think I bought that way.

I dont get it how can you put this hood on! I know the lights have to come off but where about should I cut them at the vary bottom were the plastic begins to curve or where?.......and how do you put the studs in with out seeing them? Could some one show me the light here....I know it looks sick when its done so I need help a little to do it.

Evan

Look at the pics and you will get an idea. You dont really know where to put the screws, what I did was press down hard and it left a mark and I drilled the hole. Then I attached the key plastic to the underside as you can see in the pic. I cut as though where the straight edge of plastic is where the lights are missing, used it as an imaginary line and cut straight up and down. Also you have to use locktight to tighten the studs so u can tighten the nuts. If you need more help I will try to explain in more detail later.
