Id rather put sand tires on a crotch rocket then spend that much on the turbo setup for that thing. That is crazy fast though.
in what way is the ds faster hell i would kick my own *ss if i even was to let that cross my mind. no way thay are slow as hell i race them at the track time to time. maybe top speed but i dont think so. man take about $300 put it in to your 400 and it will do what you need. hell i will even hepl u find good deals on parts.
is your motor stock? if so go with a cam.
stage 1 hot cam i can get the all day for $129 shipped new
then get a 450r carb around $150
then get a key cut from some one on here cuts them a +3 or +6 $30 to $60 so all and all you will have at the most $309 to $339 and it will walk the dog on that ds 650 and others.

Those things actually haul pretty damn good on the dunes stock with a nice set of paddles.

What's your problem? Not everyone cares about having a "drag bike"
The DS650 is a large, beautifully riding dune quad. With the right shocks, they can float over things a 400ex couldn't dream of. And with the right bolt-on mods, they can fly.
And how would he mod his 400ex if he already traded?
Man I wish you would come up here... You may be the "fastest" down in your part, but their are dirt quads used for trail riding that would destroy your 400ex in a drag up here..guarenteed.

They just seem so big to me. also they have the wheelbase of an old VW beetle. they might be good on the dunes though.

Hey man good for you!
I bet half the guys that are bashing the DS have never rode it... or even rode an ex in dune application.
Those bikes make great duners. I think you'll be pleased. Also, for the record, air-cooled engines + high heat, heavy load environment = huge performance fade.
And it's sorta odd seeing people that think the fourhundy is still the fastest bike out there. :huh
If your going to use it only for dunes I think that it was a good choice for you.But if your going to do part dune and part trail riding I think you should have kept the EX If it was me I would have kept
the 400.Thrown A pipe, Jets, Filter and a timing key on it and had just as much fun

You guys are underestimating the power of those 650's when they're opened up a little...
A decent exhaust, intake, and possibly cam make them a hell of a runner. Very broad torque range. Plus I love how they have a tachometer haha

Hondamaster is right, with the right work that DS can easily be faster then a big bore EX.
It just needs money$$$ It will haul A** with the right mods.
I agree with the broad torque and power range with the DS, I would even take one over a 660 raptor, with the power the DS puts out, you could tune that thing to spin some HUGE paddles and be alot faster then most other quads.

Exactly. I think they're faster then the 660's, handle better, and have more potential.
I've seen stroker 650's with cams, carb, cdi box, and exhaust. They HAUL.
I love the way those machines feel. So roomy and comfortable, and they ride amazing.
