For the ones that have used them did or do you have trouble with ground clearance? I put a set of ITP 8x6.5 16 on my boys DRR today and it seems to be pretty close to the ground in the rear. He really likes how they grip and the gearing change that it made. Thanks Rodney

yes, we did. lost two races this year due to framing out, or getting stuck in the ruts due to lack of ground clearance.

we run the 18" snow hogs now. The 16s will give you better torque and acceleration, and the 18s will give you more top speed. I'd rather run the 16s, but any acceleration advantage is lost if you are stuck in the ruts.

I always ran the 16's. There were a few times I did run the 18
just becauce of the track having big ruts or lots of mud.

The local track is normally dry slick after acouple rounds but I would like to take him to more National events next year. It looks like we will just keep a couple sets of tires with us. He got stuck at Sunset Ridge this year with the 18s on but I think that it was more him then the Quad. He went over the handle bars a Week before the race so he was a little sccared of the ruts.

Not sure of the difference between ground clearences on our machines but i have tried both the 16 and 18 and have done alot of timing with them. I have found that there is not alot of difference for us. It does change my gearing of course but i can get almost the same results with both{a litle more top with 18}. I left it up to Eli and he prefers the 16in tire says he corners better and he hasnt got stuck yet {knock on wood}. I do carry 18 in case of real muddy track. Also the 18 we run are snowhogs not full size 18

website shows the tires mounted heighth as
17.3" & 16.3"
the 16 is mounted on a 6.2" wide rim and the 18 on a 6.6" wide rim.
These are for snow thrower purposes, so my guess is they may be a tiny bit taller on the 6" rim we all use.

If I would have thought this through the 18" should only an inch more clearance. With the 16" I can see the rear gaurd more then before. Thanks for all the replies on this.

Always wondered why they were called Snow Hogs. Learn something every day.

When Will was on a 50 we ran the 16's unless it was muddy. A little shorter and a little lighter. Worked well for us.
