About 2 months ago i jarred my hand while riding (I cased a jump and it threw me forward and my wrist bent back and was pushed forward). The pain went away and then a few days later i fell on my hand and had a terrible pain in my wrist/hand. I went to the dr and got xrays and nothing was broken, he said i had tendonitis and it should be better in a few weeks. I looked up some info and it doesnt sound like tendonitis. Its been 2 months since the injury now and its not getting better. It doesnt hurt unless i bend my pinky side of my hand back towards my arm. Anyone have a similar injury? What the hecks wrong with me? I dont feel like spending big bucks right now to go see a hand specialist but its looking like my only option.

If it hurts to do that then “Don’t do that”
Tendons and ligaments take the longest to heal, give it more time.

Chances are the pain will come and go from now on, this comes with beating yourself up like that. Wait till you’re my age and see how hard it is to get out of bed in the morning.:D :D

hahaha dont tell me that! Im only 19 im in my prime :D Im thinking its a really bad sprain but i dont know because ive never sprained anything before. Ive got a race next weekend and i sure would hate to miss another race because of my hand. I know tendons take a long time to heal but its already been 2 months, im getting impatient haha.

I’m 50 years old and still riding and racing so there will be another day to ride and race. Just roll for points and get well before you hammer down again.

probably sprained/strained it and the tendons and ligaments. Course you coulda also tore them but you would have more pain.

Wrap an ac e bandage on the wrist and hand for a week and try to baby it and it'll feel better.

Put one of those wrist braces on it and take it a little easy.

I've had tendens/ligaments take 6 months+ to heal!

Jeeeezzz im gonna try to ride and see if that bothers it. Ive had a splint on it for 3 weeks so far and it doesnt seem to get any better but maybe its just taking a while.

x2 on the braces/wraps/ whatever you can find. Tendonitus is serious stuff and little things bother it, and can take you right back to square one. Dr. can give you a cortizone shot, but you need to take it easy with the wrist for a while.

First of all did you notice any swelling in one particular spot. Also your hand/wrist area has a lot of small bones in it. Sometimes its very easy to miss a small break in one of those bones (looking at the x-ray that is). The wrist braces are definately a good idea. If its still really bothering you pretty good at this point, Here is what I would do. Go to CVS or Walgreens Rite Aid etc. and get you a wrist brace. These are the ones that strap around the thumb and go midway up your forearm. Looks like a hand/wrist/arm brace kind of thing. Wear this day and night. Only off to swim or bath for 3 weeks (at least) and then one more week just during the day and off at night or vise versa. Next, get yourself the EVS wrist brace just for riding. Its very inexpensive and you can get it from Rocky Mnt or Motosport etc. If you will do this, (4 weeks...again...I say at least) the wrist/hand injury will start to feel much better as well as heal like it needs to without you stressing it worse (which prolongs the healing time...making it uncomfortable to ride).

Heres a link to the EVS brace on RMATV

i did the same thing. went to the er and they told me nothing was wrong. it kept hurting and kept hurtin. i finally went to a bone and joint speacilist, he looked at my x rays and told me my wrist was broke and i had to have surgery. i broke a small bone called the scafoid. they had to do a bone graph and screw it back together. hope you didnt do the same thing

Thats what I did as well. Luckily no surgery was required. Thats one of these many small bones thats easy to mis on the x-ray but takes alittle longer to heal.

did the same thing and damaged ligaments/tendons - the doc waited 6 months for it to heal and it never did - had to go in for surgery to fix it - 4 weeks later it was as good as new.

Hopefully you didnt do what I did last summer, Now that I'm healed I use the EVS wrist braces whenever I ride. I should have started using them alot sooner because not only do they prevent broken wrists they also help alot with arm and thumb fatigue.

same thing happened to my wrist you just have to give it time to heal and it takes a long time.

I damaged the nerve bundle in my wrist just by falling on it and had pain for a long time before having surgery to repair it and some ligaments around the bundle. Doesn't take much pressure from any sort of impact to damage/break those tiny bones or the nerve and ligament bundle in there. Hope it gets better. A year out from having surgery and it still hurts like hell when it rains!! :grr:

It always baffles me that people don't wanna spend money on healthcare...sounds like you broke your scaphoid bone. I did 2 yeaRs ago and was in a cast for 8 months...luckily no surgery. The ER and my doctor both said it was just sprained, specialist fixed me right up.

Its your body, you only get one...spend the money and get it looked at by the right people

I thought i broke my thumb and it hurt for like two months so i went and got it checked out and they said nothing was wrong but even after that it took like three more months to get close to normal.
