compression release

Just wondering is it common for the compression realeases to go bad on z's? I'm trying to figure out why it won't start.

very uncommon for the CR to go bad..its press mounted directly to the camshaft......its possible but not likely...is your motor stock or is it a high compression piston?

Stock. it wont run on starting fluid but it has spark, which leads me to believe it is something compression related. The wierd part is the last time it ran it ran perfect and didn't smoke at all. :confused:

well it could be quite a few things but start simple first...run a compression check if you can ..stock compression should be around 142 psi with the decompression ring.....if thats good then check the carb and the cdi box.....sounds like it should be something simple tho but better to check everything to be safe..
