I have 86 r with long rod crank cr head gasket fmf sst pipe with turbinecore silencer. my current jetting is 138rd main 65 slow jet and a ceg needle in a 34 pj. I know this is not correct I called Baldwin powersports and mark said go with a 145-148 main and a 55 pilot does this sound right? any other suggestions? also what is the difference between ab and rd main jets? thanks in advance.

oh he also said to run a minimum 100 octane @ 32:1 with benol. if this helps.

id go with a 150 main and a 48 pilot and go from there. that should be a good start

are those Keihin jets with the lettering? i've seen the lettering before but been awhile. i personally wouldnt run anything but TRUE Keihin jets. i'd go with a 165 main and a 48 pilot w/the needle in the center position for starters.

yes they are real kehien jets. also would I be better off with a different carb all together?

that really depends on your riding and porting/engine setup.

dont mean to piss anybody off, but how do u make jetting recommendations, when u dont know what elevation that its running at or what type fuel ( ethenol ) ?

its only a safe "base" recommendation to start with. its left up to them to fine tune later

ok I got my jets in I went with the 55 slow and 148 main with needle clip in the middle position. I cleaned the air filter and adjusted my idle and air screw the bike seems like it will idle for days. but when I gas it it bogs before it revs any ideas? this is my first jetting job so I could use the all the help I can get. also I live in Ohio right on the lake and it is pretty hot and humid if this helps. also elevation is 600 to 800 feet above sea level. thaNks fearlessfred hope this helps. oh and I run 100-110 octane with klotz tecniplate at 40:1 but was told to use benol @ 32:1

my reason for asking is because, when i ride dumont in the winter ( around sea level ) and coral pink in the summer (above 6000 ) there can be as much as much as 10 no. sizes diff. for example 150 to 160 .i also agree on using the keihin jets

To me a 55 pilot sounds kinda big.

k I will try it. that would make it richer? also like I said it had a 65 slow and a 138 rd main before and it would run good but the plug said different one day it was greyish and the next black but never wet. I don't know what these people were running it on seems like a weird jet combination to me though.

kinda tuff jetting a pj.......... you can achieve an idle with one using the choke knob if pilot is too large

it does idle good however I used a new plug and I just let it idle before I shut it off and pulled the plug it was just slightly wet. does the air screw adjust only slow jet air or slow and main combined?

you should read this before proceeding any further. it will better help you to understand each section of the carb and its function. great read
