just picked up a used 05 400ex for mf gf. looking to widenin it out. Axle and arms. just curious if aftermarket 450R axles and A arms will fit. that way i can have a better field to search.

thanks

Neither of them will work. The spacing between the a-arm mounts are different between the two, and the bearing carrier is different widths.

get a gforce axel, its $200 +4in adjustable, life time no questions asked warranty, and the front you can either by off set tires, or get extended hubs.

This pic has a lowering kit and offset rims, nevermind the lowering kit, but focus on the offset rims, normally the brakes are covered by the rim, that will give you a general idea about how much itll widen the front with only with offsets, to get offsets when ordering the rims you have to order 10inch rims, wise to get tires for it also. On mine it added a few inches on each side.

Is there a thread that explains what parts will swap from the 450R over the 400EX? That'd be awesome to have.

lol yeah man thats a skylark, he just got done redoing the whole motor and engine compartment, next is a new convertable top and interior. still needs some paint, but its a nice car, runs great.

Good eye man...lol.

there are numerous threads about 450 parts fitting on a 400. if you want to use an axle you need the carrier also from a 450r. it is a bit wide but will work. steve

you can put a 450r axle on a 400ex any day you just have to swap the swing arm out for a 450r one. the a arm deff wont fit cuz of the pivot mounts, on my 400ex i do have 450r lone star a arms and elks stage 3 triple rates. all you have to do is alittle custom fab. it does change the geo on the quad a little bit but i make up for that with the lonestar axcaliber +4 rear axle. some people say would you do this?? and the answer is cuz it custom and no one has one that i have seen.

i will get some pics of the bike soon. i lost the memory card with the original pics. what i did was removed the back mounts and moved them back 1 1/2" to 2". i used the original mounts and beefed them up. also had to make some new gussets for them.

pretty much what i thought you had done. i have thought about this before and prob will be doing it if i ever do a complete rebuild on my 02. with full frame gussets and powercoat.

i don't know why more people haven't done this. it seams like 450r arms are a bit cheaper then 400 arms anymore. anyone that can run a decent bead of weld should be able do it. but i also understand most poeple don't like digging into projects that don't bolt on, or can't weld, or don't have fab tools laying around. i guess i just don't fit that bill.

yeah i know what you mean. i can lay a bead but not like my uncle had him weld it. i payed $450 for the lone star arms they had 2 races on them. and had to pay nothing to get them welded got to love family. just bolting on is to easy had to make it a project and i could never be happier with the way it came out.

how far was the frame spacing off for the 450r a-arms??? does the shock line up correctly? as in lower shock mounts.

steve the a arms did have 2 races on them i know the kid who owned them lol, and the alien asks me all the time if he can take my 4hundy for a ride but i think its to much hp for him his arms might rip off lol. adensquad im pretty sure it was 1 1/2" to 2" back from stock mounts. i will take a measurement and let you know. a4guy thanks i have to many hours invested in her.
