I'm working on an 09 Z that has an 06 head, all electronics, and an FCR carb, but won't run. It's getting fuel, fire, and compression, but no luck on getting it to crank. Any ideas on where I could look for answers? Thanks

Just throwing this out there, but checked timing, cams are lined up, flywheel is lined up. Definately getting fuel, plenty of compression, good spark, so just looking for things to try at this point. Tried different carbs, different CDI boxes, different electronic components.... I'm stumped.

hmm why go back to carb from efi?..you dont like the power delivery or throttle response from the efi? have you actually measure the spark and coil with a volt meter to make sure its correct?...i'm not sure how much they changed the harness from 08 to accomodate the efi system.....so the lower cam gear is the same on an 09 as the 08?,,did you run a compression check also to make sure the valves are opening and closing in the right order?..

EFI to carb to get away from the computer and more power on a built motor. All components are brand new, so I haven't tested anything with a meter. yet... And the bike has plenty of compression. It has been tested, but I don't remember the specs. Cams and all are from 06.

that would be my only guess then and I do mean "guess" is that they have made a significant change from the 08 harness to the 09 harness and its affecting the 06 components your putting back on...good luck sir

All 06 harness, cdi, etc. That's what's puzzling. I'm not the brainchild behind this though. Just trying to help a friend out.

well here is the stock harness schematic...might want to have our friend double check it...

That's sweet to have it in color, but we have already went through it all. All electronics are 06 on this bike now too. Everything is just a plug and play so I don't understand the problem.

That really sounds like the valves out of spec. If your running the entire older style harness with all the electronics on a newer 09 model, I don't see why it wont start. Now, is there a reason why the 06 head is being used? Meaning, is there a difference between the two?

What about the stuff inside the bottom end?

Crank sensor / pulse generator?????
