Ok here we go I have an 86r with the long rod crank. I am thinking of getting an esr310 cylinder and I want to keep the stoker. Do they make an 86 style piston and cylinder? Or is it based off the 87-89 jug? Also what would the displacement be on something like this?

to start with, its not a stroker crank. Its still a 72mm stroke. Also most and all big bore pistons are short rod pistons. To use a big bore with a long rod crank, you need to use a spacer plate and 2 base gaskets. Or rebuild a short rod and only use 1 base gasket. You still will have a stroke of 72mm either way.

A long rod is not a stroker crank. It has the same stroke as a short rod crank. 72mm

I thought it was considered a strokes if you used a 86 piston. correct me if I'm wrong but I was told if you use a long rod crank with an 86 piston and 86 jug with spacer plate it is a strokes motor. esr told me this he said it moves the pin location on the piston which gives you a longer stroke. and makes it about 265cc.

The crankshaft still has the same range of movement no matter what piston you use. Guys run the long rod with the 86 piston and spacer plate mostly because you can go up to .140 overbore.

so this guy at esr lied to me. nice. it makes pence now. does anyone make a true stroker crank?

ESR sells stroker cranks. My 6 mil is a ESR crank.:D

I think you misunderstood the guy at ESR.

he told me a long rod crank is the same as the strokers he makes he said he uses an oem crank for the strokers he makes I remember I told him specifically what I wanted. maybe it was miscomunocation though. regardless I'm still upset now. I didn't think it had the power it should lol.

big surprise on the power issue. It all varies on the porting(alot of the factor), carb, pipe, reeds and ignition. The esr cylinder I had sucked, it looked as if 2 different people ported it, nothing on either side was the same. Many who have ESR stuff sent it out and were very surprised on the results, they didn't know the cylinder had that much power locked away in it.

A stroker crank is when the pin itself on crank is moved to allow the rod to move further up and down. This also requires far different porting and can only be used w/ good results on the same stroked amount.
