has anyone put a 450r fan on their 400ex? i have never seen anyone/ or seen a thread on this yet.

i was down at the honda dealer getting some parts and i was looking at a new R. i know the r fan might be a bit big, but one could get it real cheap from the 450r guys, why not?

i know everyone runs the spal, thats not the point. i want to know why i have never seen anyone do this yet?

I to have been thinking of a small box fan type of mod that will run air through the motor and run cooler at low speed.

Id think if it flowed enough air, there would be no need for air scoops, which would cause drag at higher speeds.

i run full fenders on mine, its a 4 wheeler. not a drag car. and as far as i am concerned my scooops prob help drag. at full speed my front fenders actually don't push up/back as much with the scoops on.

(see how far the scoops go out, a good halfway across the fender)

anyway anyone have a 450r fan, or tried to put one their 400? or want to?

The 450 fan looks a bit bigger. If you are just using it for cooling the oil cooler then I think it may be over kill compared to the SPAL fan. The SPAL looks like it would mount up better and look normal.

I would never zip tie something to my quad permanently. I keep them in my took kit for emergencies but never to mount something like that. There is a write up how to do it correctly.

[/B] Pretty sure the rider sitting on top of the machine will cause more drag then a set of scoops could ever even come close to. Obviously I'm giving you a hard time but that would be the last thing you should ever worry about.

Regardless if it worked or not, nuts and bolts are stronger then zip ties any day of the week. The last thing I want to worry about when I am hauling balls down a bumpy trail and climbing hills is if some little pieces of plastic are keeping something on that is cooling my engine.
