What size trailer would you guys buy to carry 2 400ex's? Looking to buy a trailer to haul mine and the wife's quads around so we can ride other places than the house.

6ftx12ft will fit the bill nicely. Could also find a snowmobile triton trailer, its VERY wide at like 10ft and about 8-12ft long or so (depends on model) but it fits them and its what my friends use. They can fit 2 front to back and one sideways cause theres is like 10x12. I think it hauls nicely too.

I bought what I thought was one, but its like 5ft 4in x 10 and I cannot put them sideways or back to back. To short sideways and not long enough so I had to extend it.

Are you looking for a flat or cargo trailer?

I would prefer something with sides and a liftgate/ramp on back. Something like this

CJM-it would probably be kind of hard to find a snowmobile trailer in my neck of the woods, but I will keep the 6x12 in mind, I was thinking 6x10 to start

Yea they should fit sideways on a 6x10, 6x12 they can fit long ways.

FWIW a solid tube style trailer will be usually much better built than the one pictured only cause they only use angle iron. In my case mines all 1x2 tubing and although the axles small it held over 2000lbs of materials with ease on 12in trailer tires.

A 400EX takes up a footprint of 6' x 4'.
To give you an idea of the "Fit" for that size, here is a pic of a hitch mounted rack I just welded up.
It is exactally 6' wide x 4' ...

For a open/flat bed trailer, 6' x 10' will work but the quads will need to be sideways on the trailer.
You would need to consider how you would place the loading/off loading ramps, in relation to the trailers wheel and fender. It could be done easy enough, but you might need to have an extra bar welded on at the outboard edge of the trailers fender, and be positioned from the rear trailer corner to wherever 4' forward would be.
( I hope that makes sence )

If you were to go with a 6' x 12' trailer, they can both go in, one behind the other, but you may not be able to have the tall tailgate/ramp. 6' x 12' would provide for a little extra room for things like fuel cans, firewood, toolbox, or whatever you like to take along.

another thing to consider is that whatever trailer you get, you will need to park/store that trailer somewhere, (when not being used).
And since you WILL need to be storing it, would it be more to your benefit to get an Enclosed trailer ?

The quads could then stay stored in the trailer when parked at home. (this means you basically get half of you garage back).

just some food for thought.

Do you happen to have a picture of what you mean?

Ron- Thanks for all the points to hit. I didn't think of many of those things, although I keep my quads in an outdoor building I bought just for them and I have 11 acres so storing the trailer wouldn't be a problem either.

Although it would be nice to have some room on the trailer for a few other small things like you mentioned

I would go with the 6X12 enclosed. It is really nice to put them in an enclosed trailer and lock them up. Makes you feel better when you are out on a ride and go to bed at night. It also allows you carry more stuff. Look into a V-Nose 6X12 for a little more space.

Im sorry to say I dont. Picture this tho, the type of trailer you posted the picture of is made of angle iron. This is nothing more than a 90 degree bent piece of metal. Its strong but not as strong as square tube like the carrier ron built. Rons carrier is made of square tubing.

if you go open trailer just get some FAT ARSE chains and lock them suckers up good.

Thanks for the recommendations. An enclosed V-nose would be nice but the best price I have found for a 6x12 was on craigslist and even used it was $2200 which is about 3 times what I would like to spend on a used trailer.

Gotta wait for the right deal, takes time. I spent a good 6 months searching CL and although it aint pretty and needed new lights it works well.

I have been watching for about 3-4 months now, hoping someone upgraded after tax time. I'll keep looking though.

I thought you might get a kick out of my other two trailers.
I have a long reputation for being able to pack 10 lbs. of "Stuff" into a 5 lb. bag. :D
This is my 11'long (the box part) x 5' wide cargo trailer, with my daughter, wife, and my quads in it...

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/tri5ron/3%20quad%20trailer/IMG_9504.jpg

Then, we got another quad for my son. I had to figure out how I could get it on there too.
So with a little imagination, removal of the front toolbox, add a truckbed hoist on the railing, and decking on the tounge.....

And if you think that stuffed full, you'll REALLY like my 14' x 7' Enclosed trailer.
literally EVERYTHING you see in this pic,
the landsailers, the quads, chairs, 3 picnic tables, BBQ, firepit, firewood, tools, all our riding gear, and more,
goes into the red enclosed trailer.
The only things that goes into the camper is the two dogs, and ice chests.

Have fun packing !!! :eek2: :D

I have a 6x12 1 trailer that i get four quads on. The bikes load up from the side, I have a 6x4 sheet of plywood with refrigerator wheels underneath, I load one bike up on this and then i can just push the bike to the center of the trailer. in the front I have piece of plywood that is on hinges after I hook the trailer to the truck I lay the plywood down on the v framework and load my daughters 125 grizzly on this. Can't jack knife the trailer to an extreme angle when backing up but I have no problems turning when I'm pulling the trailer down the road.

Here is a pic of my 6x10 with two quads on it. I either put them on sideways or like this. Either way works, this way is harder to get the front end strapped down with the sideways quad in the way.

The trailer has an aluminum deck with airline track (http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Ratchet-Straps-Tie-Downs/Airline-Straps-Hardware) mounted all over it. It works out great for the quads, tons of tie down options.
