400ex not all gears

any help with this 400ex when riding cant get 4th and 5th gear
---- just replaced the piston and valves and clutch housing runs great has neutral 1st 2nd and 3rd but stops there every thing was fine before that:ermm:

Did you put the clutch back in right? the last plate must be in the actual outer edge type area of the clutch basket.

i will double check but when replaced i turned upsided down on bench and installed same order removed checking for wear or damage was also wondering if the cable would have anything to with this being that it has 1-2-3 ????

split the case tonight manual changed gears went in every gear
is there something im missing ?????:ermm:

Was the quad started when you tried going through them all? Did you have the clutch in?

Maybe something was binding when you put the case together the first time. If its manually shifting through them all throw her back together and try again.

when originally put together --- riding could only get 1-3 not 4-5
split case tonight to check and manualy change and goes into all

going toput back together tom. and see what happens just dont understand becuase when did the orignal work never did touch the trans thanks for any and all help

If you just had to replace the piston, valves and clutch basket why did you have the case split? Or are you just talking about the engine side cover?

just split the case to check all the parts for trans to make nothing was broke or any thing trying to cover all the possibilities but i am finding nothing thats whats drivein me crazy

Was the case hard to put back together or did it slight right tight with ease? I'm thinking something may have been binding in there and after you took it apart it set it free so you were able to shift through. I may be completely wrong though. Just a thought.

Sounds good. Good luck. Sometimes things are just a little tweaked but enough to cause malfunctions. Hope it works out.

put back together still same problem

checked clutch plate was in the right place
tightened clutch cable / loosened clutch cable no help

when riding shift down goes into 1st easy then pull up 2nd easy pull up 3rd easy then it acts last that is the last gear will not go up anymore down shifts the same way --- nuetral is hard to find
have got to play with to get it to go in im lost

Bent shift fork? Did you pull the forks out? You may have not installed them correctly if you had them out.
