It depends on what kind of riding, and where you want your power.

Stg1 - Strong bottom-end, but weak on the top.
Stg2 - Strong in the mid-range, and a decent top-end.
Stg3 - Strong on top-end, but weak off the bottom.

It really depends on your riding style. I ran the Stg2 for a long time, then switched to Stg1. I prefer the Stg1 because it is less likely to stall in the tight woods. Also, climbing hills the motor doesn't bog down as much.
