I've got a little 92 corsica i drive around some and its got about 175,000 miles on it. Recently when i take a sharp left turn its like it quits pulling and goes into neutral for a second. I can put it in drive and punch it in a straight line and it does fine, no slipping. Its only doing it on left turns:confused:

Its not because its low on fuel either. Its got 3/4 tank.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit* Transmission fluid is full too

im no expert but maybe it has something to do with your left cv shaft slipping or causing the tranny slip into neutral. is it an automatic or manual.

Its an auto. I thought about the cv shaft, is that a easy thing to check?

Make sure the transmission fluid level is correct. I had a similar issue with an old Chrysler Laser that was low on fluid and caused the clutches to slip on turns.

Yep you hit the nail on the head, low fluid level.

Check it while the engine is warm and running. If you check it with the engine turned off it's going to read wrong.

Both times i checked it, it was in neutral and was warmed up but the engine wasnt running. It was dark outside the first time i checked it so thats prolly why i read it wrong.

engine needs to be running to check the fluid level, its not a CV shaft, there really is no way for an axle to cause that kind of problem, it could also be your trans filter, if they get clogged on one side and then you turn and the fluid needs to be sucked up on that side of the filter it can slip. are you sure the trans isnt down shifting when you make your turn? if its downshifting and revving up then the trans itself is wearing out, clutches and bands are worn

Im positive it isnt downshifting in turns, its going completely out of gear.

I filled it back up (took 1.75 qts) and put it in the carport to see if it was leaking and sure enough after about an hour there is a 1ft wide puddle of trans fluid. I guess i have a bad leak somewhere.

Check the pan for the leak first.
