2004 450r lights

my 2004 450r's lights dim when i rev it up but when it idles the lights are bright.is it the stator?

did you write this right? dims when you rev? could be a wire going to ground. usually when the stator goes bad it doesnt get brighter when you rev

Could be a bad stator...

When the bike is at idle the coil has a lighter draw which leaves more power for the light... When you rev it the coil draws more power to create more spark and dims the light...

Could be a bad ground... Could be a bad condenser unit or a bad rectifier...

If I'm not mistaken, the shop manual has directions to test each...

Bails, the light and the spark plug are on seperate circuits. The alternator provides the lights, the ignition pulse generator provides the spark. When the system is working properly your lights should be brighter with higher RPM's. You could be on to something with the regulator/rectifier.

Check for metal shavings on the pulse generator...

Usualy means the stator is junk...

And I've seen lots of funny things happen from rectifier/regulators...
