I sure this has already been covered but I was not able to locate any threads relating to this topic. I was wanting opinions on what exhaust to run. I am looking to get a full exhaust, jets, and filter. Maybe a cam later down the road. Mainly used to trail ride. thanks for the info!

these should be decent starters, if you still havent decided come on back with the questions. my vote is for the q4 since it is quiet. steve

at the moment im not but if i had the extra coin i would give it a try. it seems to be a nice pipe and would work with both my t-4 and my q4 so it would be an added bonus. for these motors though, the stocker breathes pretty decent with the insides cleaned up a bit. steve

again, thanks for the info. I think I will go with the q4, I like the performance and a bit less noisy has its advantages as well...lol.

^^ show me a decibel reading for an hmf that is 90 dbs. I dont think you will be finding one. say the comp series is at 96 (which is still too low), then you buy the quiet core for it. it says 3-6dbs(you wont be getting 6dbs on the comp series with just the screen they show in the picture or the cap that they give with it). so if you start at 96 decibels, you are at 90 then but i doubt that the comp series is at 96 decibels with the regular cap on it. the stage 1 insert will make it sound like a tin can popping since the hole is really small. this will make it sound louder but will actually reduce the sound a bit. the quiet core is an extra 25 bucks to get it. you are at 289+25 = 314 total. q4 is 306 at dennis kirk. it is a good exhaust but if you are looking to gain some without much more sound then the q4 is the way to go. if sound is not a worry then the t-4 is good, hmf is good, sparks is good, pretty much any one is good. they all only really 2 hp gain with a filter attached to it on the other side. gains arent really noticable until you open them up with a cam, bore, and other things.

this is old but still a good read:
http://www.ctracing.com/PD_ct%20photos/dirt_wheels_march_2001.htm

it will fill you in on how much it really changes the hp of the machine.

the next thing you have to ask yourself is where you want the power to be at. do you want more low end? more top end? a bit of both? it all comes down to where you want the power to be at. the t-4 is a good all around pipe, at 95 dbs it is a bit on the loud side. the q4 another all around decent pipe and quiet, hmf decent all around pipe with more top end than low, sparks top end. look at the charts and see where it makes the power at. if you want low end then look for something with more hp at around 3-4 thousand, top around 6-7 thousand rpms. it is all preference. recommending a pipe is not an easy task just for these factors alone. steve

I love my Alien A1. I posted my video on another thread, but I might as well post it again for you. It's not exactly quiet though.

correct me if i'm wrong. most of the hmf performance series i have heard sound a bit more 'poppy' or higher pitched to me. I have not heard a comp series on a quad yet. the q4 sounds a bit lower and throaty to me............any input?

imo yes depending on what cap is in the hmf. the bigger the cap though the smoother they sound. the stages 1 and 2 are what make them sound funny with the smaller holes. lol. steve
