74mph 400ex!

Yeah there is this kid in my school that keeps telling me that he and his friends clocked his 100% stock 400ex in at 74 mph! What a joke what do you guys think?:ermm:

Maybe he just changed gearing? I ran 77mph at the drag strip with 16/38 gearing a few months ago on 20" tires.

I agree with 2fastandfurious with acceration.Most of the time people don't even have the room to get up to top speed.Whether that 90 or 100 depends what you got but,i think most of the fun out of ATV's or dirtbikes is the acceration.When you press the gas and jerk back on your seat and holding on for dear life now thats what 4 wheelers are all about plus jumping haha :confused2

Derek, my mods have nothing to do with hitting 77; a stock 400ex WILL do that with gearing as I mentioned. I have the EXACT same CDI(rev box) that came wih the quad. It still hits the same 9,200 rpm's as stock. There are only a few ways to increase your top speed assuming your quad is hitting the rev limiter now. You can: internally modify 5th gear ratio,modify peak rpms,modify tire diamter, or change the gearing. My stock 400ex would easily pull the top of 5th gear. After I had the motor worked on; the top speed was EXACTLY the same before I switched the front sprocket from 15 tooth to 16 tooth. I have since changed the rear from 38 to 36 which adds more top end speed. That will push it over 80 mph. The same thing can be done to a stock motor 400ex with enough room to max out. In my case; mine hit 77 in 1/8 mile and was maxed out long before the speed traps. This was computer verified at 710 Dragstrip in Lumberton, NC not by Uncle Bill riding beside me in his 87 Camaro. :D

I got the best story.... Awhile ago when the Bombardier ds650 just came out, a kid at my school tried convincing me that the quad did 160"MPH" :huh :confused2 . I laughed so hard I almost started to cry ;) :p .

I am cabex's friend. That kid is dead serious that it goes that fast, and so are all of his friends. It was all stock, nothing changed.

a couple of months ago i got my 400ex up to 74 with stock gearin and 22/20 tire setup goin down a slight downhill on hardpack. i weigh about 135. my 400 is piped and filtered and it surprised me that it went that fast.

i now i said slight downhill and thats what i mean. ITS A SLIGHT DOWNHILL. :grr

well my integra will blow all of them away so who cares, they want to lie let em lie and make @$$es of themselves when they get a speedometer and it says 65 after 35 hours of being floored on a flat road
