03 rear shock

So, my son blew the top seal on the rear shock of his 03 while MXing this weekend. (sucked, it was during practice) Looking at getting one from ebay and/or considering getting it rebuilt.

What is the difference between the standard and Troy Lee shock? What years will fit? Any suggestions for a rebuilder if I decide to go that way?

in 03 there wasnt any difference except color. The 03 was also the only year the rear shock was different so just need to make sure its an 03 one.

I read somewhere that the years after 03 used a slightly shorter shock due to a swingarm design change. For the use of this quad, being slightly shorter would be a plus, probably.

The shock I'm looking at buying says it is an 03 but the coil is orange and it only has one spring. Still a FOX shock, but the color leads me to think it is an 05 or later Troy Lee. Would this shock fit OK? And would it be an upgrade or about the same?

if its got an orange spring chances are its an 04 or later......if thats the original oem spring for that shock. They had a TL in 2003 but I think it was black and red, in became orange in 04. I'm sure alot of people have done it but that shock is like 5/8' shorter.
