I have a 2001 400EX it does not like to idle, matter of fact it wont idle, i have only had it idle once and that was right after i did the oil change and went for a nice beat run, and it idled for ever.....not when i try to warm it up to go for a ride it wont idle for anything, i can keep it running by giving it some throttle thats about it, i am about to clean the filter and replace the plug, is there anything else it would be...

plus its cold here in mass 30 degrees or so, could it be the weather? plus what is the gap of the plug suppose to be?

remember this is stock except the filter....

Nothing really lke to idle when it is warming up. Try to use your idle adjustment knob and see if it will work then.

If it is that cold there you might want to up your pilot jet to at least a 42 but i would probably go higher.

well i tested it and ran the motor with no air-filter and it idled fine, so i am in the process of cleaning my current filter, and i will purchase a UNI filter to replace it, because the K&N thats there looks beat.

also the plug was gaped at like .020

Yea the 400 now can idle, but can anyone tell me the gap of the plug? the NGK i took out had a gap of .020 that seems way to close, the autolite book said to gap there plug to .035 so i did and it idles fine. but i am getting some NGK's for backups.

The gap should be .024 to .028 inchs.:)
