so the 400 is smoking on start up and whenever I punch the throttle, and it would seem like it would be valve seals but i just did them maybe 20 hours ago. when i did them i was super careful to make sure that i did not rip the seals. Do you think it is the seals again or does anyone have any other ideas?

sounds like it but after doing them not that long ago, it doesnt seem likely unless something happened that you dont know about with them. it would be a waste to tear it down just to do that. maybe it is time for some rings and it is just starting to get bad. have you done a comp test and a leak down test? they will tell you what is wrong with it for sure. steve

i did the rings when i had the motor torn down for a rebuild, and the cylinder was honed and i broke the motor in. Looks like i'm gonna have to do a compression test

My first guess would have been rings but you said you just replaced them.
